The date that presenter Ben Shephard will formally be leaving Good Morning Britain has been revealed.

It was lately introduced after months of speculation that the star will be switching shows at ITV, swapping the early morning programme for This Morning alongside Cat Deeley.

The news of their new roles come after former co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield give up the collection, with stars together with Rylan Clark, Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson taking their place in the meantime.

On Thursday's GMB, Ben, 49, and Kate Garraway, 56, started by speaking about his upcoming departure.

'I'm upgrading from Kate to Cat,' Ben quipped, as Kate made a playful promise to her co-star, saying: 'We aren't going to speak about it all morning, but you might discover a number of digs within the show.'

Addressing viewers, Ben added: 'Thanks very much for the superb messages that I've had, clearly it's one thing I thought-about very, very rigorously, because these guys have been my family for the last 10 years some of them, method longer for us.'

He emphasised that the choice to go away GMB was 'not one thing he took frivolously', however joining This Morning was an 'thrilling opportunity'.

'Tomorrow is going to be my last day on Good Morning Britain,' he declared, as Kate promised that they might have fun him on Friday's programme.

'We could get the final bit of labor out of you?' she then added, as he responded: 'Yeah, see for those who can squeeze me dry, one last time.'

Whereas the pair have been speaking to Coronation Road stars Anthony Cotton and Liam McCheyne, Kate introduced up Ben's exit but once more.

They have been discussing Corrie character Mary Taylor, who stated in an episode that aired on Valentine's Day that she can be 'crying into my Ben Shephard cushion'.

'We are all going to be doing that tomorrow,' Kate remarked. 'At Good Morning Britain we're dropping him.'

Fellow GMB presenter Andi Peters referenced the fact that 'it is Ben's last day tomorrow', joking that he was going to get his co-star a gift.

Ben also posted a selfie of himself with Kate on Instagram, writing within the caption: 'Two days and counting @kategarraway ❤️.'

Last week when it was confirmed that Ben can be leaving GMB and joining This Morning, he paid tribute to his previous decade of engaged on the breakfast TV present on Instagram, sharing an image of himself with Charlotte Hawkins, Susanna Reid, Kate and Ranvir Singh.
