Cillian Murphy is happy about the upcoming 28 Days Later sequel and has teased a tiny bit more about it, fuelling rumours further of his involvement.

Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, 67, and 53-year-old Ex Machina filmmaker Alex Garland helmed and wrote the original horror flick, starring& Murphy, which was launched back in 2002, over 20 years ago.

Now, the leading actor Bafta winner has opened up about the (very) long-gestating 28 Years Later, which can once again see Boyle and Garland workforce up.

Naturally, fans are determined to see Murphy again once more too, after he sat out 2007 follow-up 28 Weeks Later, which was directed and co-written by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

'I mean it's for them [Boyle and Garland] to discuss I suppose, however I feel it's been brewing for some time,' Murphy revealed, when probed further about it on Thursday's episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

'The first movie was so essential for me as an actor, and I really like working with these guys, and Alex has an concept…' he teased.

'And I feel Danny directing it is simply big, so – watch this area.

'It'll be thrilling.'

The Oppenheimer star also confirmed there had been two endings written for 28 Days Later when host Josh Horowitz joked that he should have been glad that his character Jim ended the film still alive after a deadly virus sweeps by way of the nation, turning humans into bloodthirsty, rage-filled zombies.

Responding to rumbles of 28 Years Later again in July, Murphy previously shared his enthusiasm for being involved with the undertaking.

He informed The Independent: 'I might be there in a flash. I made two films with each of those guys, and I might like to work with them once more. In fact, I'm there.'

Elsewhere in the interview, the Irish actor recalled being fairly miserable while filming a freezing-cold scene during which Jim commits a brutal act of violence half-naked.

'We meet him originally and he doesn't know what's occurring, he's utterly at a loss to determine what's happening, and he's so naive and scared, and all of that. And then, by the top, he's turn into this killing machine,' the actor explained of Jim's battle to outlive after waking up from a coma at the beginning of the film.

'I keep in mind we shot that entire sequence over three weeks and nights, and I keep in mind I used to be shirtless in November in England someplace, and there have been rain machines, and simply being freezing.'

He continued: 'Danny, he's so great visually – he's all the time so confident visually – and I knew that it might look nice if we received it proper. However it was miserable… It was freezing chilly.'

What we all know to date about 28 Days Later sequel, 28 Years Later

It seems like 28 Years Later might truly be the first of three films (Picture: Peter Mountain/Dna/20th Century Fox/Kobal/Rex/Shutterstock)

The Hollywood Reporter first revealed in January that Boyle and Garland have been reuniting for a 28 Days Later sequel titled 28 Years Later, projected to begin a brand new movie trilogy.

Every movie is assumed to have a price range of around $75million (£58.9m).

Apart from their confirmed involvement – and what appears to be Murphy's – not a lot else is understood concerning the movie, with it being too early to speak about casting plot or release dates for the films.

Suffice it to say, fans will probably be very thirsty for the small print when they are introduced.

Beforehand, in November 2022, Boyle had admitted he would be 'tempted' to complete a 28 Days Later trilogy, revealing that adapting Garland's script for a 28 Months Later motion picture (the logical title on the time) appealed to him.

In an interview with& NME, Boyle stated: 'I'd be very tempted (to direct it). It seems like an excellent time truly. It's humorous. I hadn't considered it till you simply stated it, and I remembered "Bang, this script!" which is once more set in England, very a lot about England.'

'Anyway, we'll see… who knows?' the Trainspotting and Sunshine director teased.
