OFFICIALS have caught a serious self-checkout rip-off the place thieves have been capable of steal hundreds of dollars value of merchandise from House Depot.
Three shoplifters are accused of making an organized retail theft ring to steal more than $100,000 from Home Depot stores.
Vicky Popat, Christopher Abad, and Christopher Eduardo Baglin are accused of working together to modify barcodes on expensive roof sealers for cheaper gadgets.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Shopper Providers' Office of Agricultural Regulation Enforcement handled the investigation. Lawyer Common Ashley Moody's OSP plans to prosecute the case.
"This group switched barcodes at self-checkout stations on expensive roof sealers for gadgets that value 95-97% less, and hit multiple Residence Depot stores a day—finally stealing more than $100,000," Lawyer Basic Moody informed My Florida Legal.
The three are accused of concentrating on Residence Depot shops throughout South and Central Florida.
Officers consider that during three years that they had stolen 281 buckets of Henry 887 Tropi-Cool roof sealer during their 25 theft incidents with the retailer.
Henry 887 Tropi-Cool roof sealant costs between $248-$445 and the group was accused of replacing it with the barcode of Henry 345 Pre-Combined Flooring Patch, which value $9.98.
Popat, Abad, and Baglin are believed to have stolen from two to 3 shops a day.
"Florida is a law-and-order state, and we are dismantling organized retail theft rings. Now, this group faces our Statewide Prosecutors and time in prison, where I can promise there isn't any self-checkout line," Moody defined.
The three males have been charged with one rely of scheme to defraud over $20,000. Additionally, Abad and Baglin have been charged with one rely of grand theft over $20,000, and Popat was charged with one rely of grand theft over $100,000.
Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson was proud that the investigation was capable of probably cease a serious crime spree.
