After years of drug abuse and sexual abuse accusations, the disgraced comedian — known for his stand-up career, sketch comedy seriesThe Andy Dick Showand work on NBC'sNewsRadio— has largely fallen out of the spotlight.

In recent years, though, he has been working on occasional projects and stand-up shows, as well as an upcoming documentary about his life, titledThe Sad Little Angel Clown (Who That Cries), though he is still just as known for his public indecencies as he is for his comedy career.

"I'd have more success in the industry if I didn't drink. I don't regret drinking, but I regret sometimes over-drinking, and I regret some of the blackout times — there's too many to count," Dick said onWTF with Marc Maronin 2011. "And I will say that if you don't have regrets in your life, you're kind of not really living."

On Dec. 9,Dick was seen slumped overoutside a building in Hollywood, Calif., where his friends appeared to help him, according to photos obtained byTMZ. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reportedly received a call of an alleged overdose involving a 59-year-old man and arrived at the scene. TMZ later stated that Dick said he was alive and okay.

Dick began his career in the early 1990s as part of Los Angeles' The Second City comedy group — whose other alumni includeSteve Carell,Stephen ColbertandTina Fey— before joining the sketch showsThe Ben Stiller ShowandNewsRadio.

He went on to land roles in several comedic movies throughout the 2000s, includingInspector Gadget,Road TripandEmployee of the Month. Notably, Dick starred in his eponymousThe Andy Dick Showin 2001, and appeared onDancing With the Starsin 2013.

While he rose to fame through stand-up and acting, Dick's misbehavior and legal troubles have drawn more attention in recent years.

Apart from struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, he has faced charges of sexual abuse and battery and was fired from two movie sets oversexual harassment claimsin 2017.

For nearly two decades, Dick faced various legal troubles, with charges ranging from drug possession to groping and sexual abuse.

The following year, Dick was arrested ondrug and sexual battery chargesafter allegedly pulling on a 17-year-old girl's top in a parking lot, to which he pled guilty. Afterward, he posted on social media that he was feeling "bummed," and fans urged him toclean up his act. Then, in 2010, he was arrested on two felony charges for sexual abuse and pleaded not guilty, perABC30 News.

He was then charged withgroping a woman on the streetin 2018, and the next year, he wasaccused of groping an Uber driver, to which he pleaded not guilty.

In 2021, Dick was arrested forassault with a deadly weaponagainst his then-fiancée, then again, a few months later, on domestic violence charges for allegedlyhitting his boyfriend with a liquor bottle. In 2022, he was arrested forfelony sexual battery.

Even with his legal troubles, Dick continues to work on comedy projects, including films and stand-up shows.

In 2022 and 2023, around the time of his frequent arrests, Dick was involved in several small projects, includingHollywood Werewolf,Alien Vampire Busters, andThe Wizard Zone.

Since then, he's also been doinglive shows, and, according to his Instagram, collaborating with other comedian personalities.

After dealing with a string of legal troubles, Dick decided to open up about his life in his 2021 podcast,ADICKTEDand in an upcoming documentary,The Sad Little Angel Clown (Who That Cries).

Named after Dick's 2009 comedy song "The Sad Little Angel Clown (Who That Cried)," the documentary follows the ups and downs of Dick's life, and features appearances from his children, Meg and Jacob, and friends, including podcast hostAdam Carolla.

Apart from his work, Dick reportedly suffered from an apparent overdose in public on Dec. 9. TMZ reported that he was seen slumped over on the streets of Hollywood. First responders arrived at the scene after getting calls about a 59-year-old man, but neither the Los Angeles Fire Department nor the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Dick's identity to the outlet.

TMZ reported that they spoke to Dick, who said he was okay but didn't share more details about the incident. The actor's reps did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment, and PEOPLE has not independently confirmed the TMZ report. PEOPLE is also out to the LAPD.
