Djimon Hounsou's ex and co-parent arrested after he alleges assault

ActorDjimon Hounsousays he's been the victim of domestic violence.

The Atlanta Police Department arrested his ex, Riza Simpson, who shares two children with him, on Jan. 16, the department confirmed toEntertainment Weekly. She is charged with obstruction and simple assault - family violence, stemming from a Dec. 2 incident.

The actor, who's known for his Oscar-nominated performances inBlood DiamondandIn America, as well as roles inAmistadandGladiator, told police that "his ex-girlfriend, Riza Simpson, was given a notice to vacate the premises since he does not want her to be at the residence," according to the police report. "Mr. Hounsou stated that Ms. Simpson has been living there for about three to four years now and share two kids together."

He described the alleged violent encounter.

"Mr. Hounsou stated that after telling Ms. Simpson to leave, Ms. Simpson was upset and stood by the driver side door of his vehicle inside the garage to retrieve a set of keys for the house when he was trying to leave the location," the report continued. "Mr. Hounsou stated that Ms. Simpson then begins to strike his face with a closed fist causing his left eye to be red and slightly swollen. Mr. Hounsou stated that he recently got surgery on his eyes prior from him being hit to his left eye. Mr. Hounsou left the house to come to the Zone 2 precinct to document this incident."

The report listed the actor as the victim and noted that he had suffered "bruising and/or swelling."

Hounsou told police that his kids were upstairs and "did not see the incident but possibly heard it," according to the report.

Police said that Hounsou was instructed both on how to obtain a temporary protective order and how the eviction process works in the county.

The obstruction charge against Simpson comes from her "providing false information and refusing to comply with lawful commands," per the report.

EW wasn't immediately able to obtain contact information for Simpson, but has reached out to reps for Hounsou.

Us Weeklyreports that a court date is scheduled for Jan. 21.
