Kelly Clarkson Reveals How Her Kids Are Coping After Their Dad's Death

Kelly Clarkson, 43, shared a rare glimpse into howher children, daughter River, 11, andsonRemington, 9, are coping with the tragic death of their father,Brandon Blackstock, on Saturday, Jan. 10. She says there's been a lot of "snuggling" in the five months since her ex-husband died after a three-year skin cancer battle on Aug. 7, 2025.

When asked what's been bringing her joy lately in a behind-the-scenes Q&A on theKelly Clarkson ShowYouTube channel, the Stronger" songstress didn't hesitate to say "snuggle!"

"My kids, they're 9 and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they're still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles," she shared sweetly, admitting, "There's been a lot for ourfamilyrecently."

"So I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit," she added. "It's my twodogs, my two kids, and me. It's a lot." However, it sounds like thequality timeand quiet moments amid the heartache have brought them closer than ever.

"It's been really special, though, because… the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute," she explained. "So that's probably my favorite time of day."

The family has been doing more than just cuddling. Clarkson also shared details about their fun New Year's Day adventure. "I went hiking. My kids and I, on New Year's Day, actually walked the beach together and hiked together and it was nice."

Clarkson has not spoken aboutthe death of her ex-husband, who was alsoReba McEntire's stepson, but Blackstock's familyreleased a statementfollowing his death. "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a rep said. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. Wethank youfor your thoughts andprayersand ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
