Several bystanders recorded a Border Patrol agentfatally shooting a 37-year-old Minneapolis manon Jan. 24.
Videos show the deadly encounter in South Minneapolis at about 9:05 a.m. between several agents andAlex Pretti, a registered nurse.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the man approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun, and agents tried to disarm him.
"The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. ... Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots." Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement.
Videos do not show Pretti wielding a gun.

Another personhas been fatally shot by federal law enforcementin Minneapolis, officials said on Jan. 24. The shooting comes just over two weeksafter 37-year-old Renee Nicole Goodwas shot in the head by a federal immigration officer in a residential neighborhood south of downtown. In the moments leading up to the shooting, Pretti is seen holding up his phone toward the agents. Local officials have told protesters to use their phones to record agents conducting immigration enforcement.
Pretti then appeared to step between an agent and another person who was pushed by the agent.
DHS said Pretti was in possession of a handgun and two magazines. Minneapolis police said Pretti legally owned a firearm and had a permit to carry a gun.
The shooting is under federal investigation. Local officials said they were prevented from their own investigation.

Chemical spray before shooting
One videowith a clear view of the encounter shows an officer shoving a person near Pretti shortly before the shooting.
Pretti steps between them, and the officer sprays him with a substance. More officers approach and wrestle Pretti to the ground, striking him repeatedly.
Pretti is on his hands and knees with at least eight officers surrounding him when a gunshot is heard. The officers surrounding Pretti jump back, and one appears to draw a gun.
A series of gunshots are heard and Pretti slumps to the ground, followed by additional gunfire.
Hands are visible shortly before shooting
Another video, taken across the street from where the shooting occurred, shows protesters yelling at officers during the immigration enforcement operation.
An officer shoves a person next to Pretti. Pretti steps between them, holding his hands up as the officer sprays a substance toward his face. Pretti appears to be holding his phone in his right hand, and his left hand is empty.
Several more officers surround Pretti, bringing him to the ground near the curb as they hit him repeatedly.
Just before the first gunshot, one officer emerges from the scrum. The first shot is then heard, followed by more gunfire as the camera swings away.
