So far, the show has revealed little about its upcoming plot — only that it will take place in France.Varietyreported in January that the new season will film at least part of the upcoming season at the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez, which is part of a collection of five-star luxury hotels.
Previous seasons of the show took place at beachside resorts in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand. The creator ofThe White Lotus,Mike White, said inan interview aired on HBO after the third season's finale, "For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the 'crashing waves against rocks' vernacular." Now, however, it appears the show will once again be returning to a coastal town — and, likely as not, to the mystery structure it established in the first season, with a flash forward revealing that someone at the hotel is dead. "There's always room for more murders atThe White Lotushotels," White teased in the same interview.
Since its first season debuted in 2021,The White Lotushas become an Emmys darling, with 66 nominations across the board and wins for stars like Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett. This year, itdominated the acting categories at the Emmys, with eight of its Season 3 actors nominated, including Carrie Coon and Parker Posey. It did not take home any Emmys for the third season, save for a Creative Arts Emmy for its main title theme music.
It's unclear how, exactly, previous seasons of the series will tie into the fourth season, but it certainly ended on a dramatic note, with multiple people dead at the luxurious Thai resort. Whether the new cast will have to deal with as much violence while trying to get some R&R remains to be seen.
