The first full moon of 2026 lit up the night sky, giving backyard astronomers the chance to admire a supermoon over the weekend.
The first full moon of the year took place on Saturday, Jan. 3, and is known as the Wolf Moon, according to the Farmer's Almanac.
The moon was a supermoon, which typically look about 30% brighter and up to 14% larger. Stargazers won't have another opportunity to see a supermoon until the end of the year. There will be one in November and another in December.
Photographers captured the moon in photos from around the world. Here's a look in case you miss the moon over the weekend.
