The Independence Police Department is actively investigating the sale of five Barbie dolls that included fentanyl taped inside the toys' packaging from discount store Cargo Largo in Independence, Missouri, the Independence Police Department shared in aFacebook poston March 21.
The Independence Police Department was contacted by Cargo Largo Security the morning of March 21 regarding a "suspicious powder substance" located in the packaging of a Barbie doll. The police department determined five compromised dolls were sold and all were located within the same day, according to the department's post.
As of March 23, the police department could not comment on the amount of fentanyl recovered, Independence Police Officer Bryan Conley told USA TODAY via email.

Discount store in 'full cooperation' with police
The Independence Police Department is investigating the origin of where the dolls were shipped from, Conley said, as Cargo Largo's business model is to buy damaged and abandoned freight.
In aFacebook postmade on March 21, Cargo Largo said it was in "full cooperation" with the Independence Police Department and, due to the investigation, couldn't comment further.
