Former pro player's return to Alabama men's basketball team sparks a scramble by the NCAA and sport's coaches

TheNCAAhas reached out to the National Association of Basketball Coaches to convene a call Friday afternoon to discuss the Charles Bediako situation, multiple sources told CNN Sports.

CNN Sports Alabama center Charles Bediako pulls down a rebound in a March 2023 game. - Rogelio V. Solis/AP

The sources were unsure if the call involved all Division I coaches or just select NABC Board members, but the impetus for the call was clear:Bediako's participationin games at Alabama.

Bediako, who last played for the Crimson Tide in 2023 and has since played in the NBA's development G League, has been granted a temporary restraining order that will allow him to play against Tennessee on Saturday. He sought the restraining order after the NCAA denied his request, citing its longstanding rule preventing players who have signed professional contracts from returning to college.

But an Alabama circuit court judge pushed back against the NCAA's decision, clearing Bediako to play at least until a hearing next week.

Several administrators, including Connecticut athletic director David Benedict, have suggested that the NCAA declare any games in which Bediako competes ineligible. The restraining order, however, specifically says that neither the player nor program can be punished by the NCAA for Bediako's participation.

"It doesn't mean the games need to count toward the NCAA Tournament,'' Benedict toldESPN. "Otherwise throw away the rule book and set it on fire. There are no rules.''

His coach, Dan Hurley, posted a slightly subtler reactionon his X feed, sharing a clip from the movie "Back To School," of 65-year-old Rodney Dangerfield declaring he was going to college

Bediako is the second player to find his way back to college after turning pro. James Nnaji, who also played in the G League, has appeared in six games for Baylor.

In response, NCAA president Charlie Baker has forcefully reaffirmed the national governing body's position.

"The NCAA has not and will not grant eligibility to any prospective or returning student-athletes who have signed an NBA contract (including a two-way contract)," he said in a statement.

Bediako had previously signed such a contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

The judges' ruling come at a time when college sports are facing yet another critical inflection point, most of it once again coming via the courts. As Bediako challenges amateur rules,Duke is suingits quarterback, Darian Mensah, for attempting to breach his contract and transfer, and Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chamblissis seeking relief for an additional yearof college football from a Mississippi court.

This isn't the first time college basketball coaches have been called for a sort of reckoning. In 2003, the NABC convened a mandatory meeting in Chicago to discuss a wave of scandal in the sport.

Patriots won't sleep on ex-Pat Jarrett Stidham, Broncos' starting QB

FOXBOROUGH, MA – Milton Williams spoke the truth when he stood at his locker and declared that he didn't know much aboutDenver Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham.

"I ain't gonna lie," theNew England Patriotsdefensive lineman said, "nothing. We're gonna watch the tape on him and figure out what he likes to do. But no. They didn't like him over Bo (Nix), so."

Indeed, theBroncoswould have preferred their starting quarterback for the last two seasons, Nix, were healthy and playing rather than Stidham, pressed into starting action Jan. 25against the Patriots in the AFC championship gamedue to Bo Nix's season-ending ankle injury. But Williams' words were more logical than disrespectful. For a team that has embodied New England head coach Mike Vrabel – Williams' statement a fair example of that – the entire locker room knows they have come too far, with too much at stake, to lighten up because the No. 1 seed in the AFC has a backup quarterback in the lineup.

"I think he sees things really well," Vrabel said of Stidham. "I think he's athletic enough to extend, like we talk about a lot of quarterbacks. Accuracy. I think the decision-making – he's really decisive in the games that we went back and watched."

Patriots drafted Jarrett Stidham in 2019, praise his preparation

Stidham has plenty of connections to the Patriots, starting with them being the organization that drafted him out of Auburn in 2019 (fourth round, 133rd overall). He was Tom Brady's backup during the seven-time Super Bowl champion's final year with the organization, then served in the same role behind Cam Newton in 2020.

(Speaking of Brady, the Patriots know a thing about a backup coming in and being a hero in a conference title game. Drew Bledsoe, after Brady had usurped him earlier that season, led the Pats to Super Bowl 36 after Brady injured his ankle against the Pittsburgh Steelers.)

The Raiders won the game, 20-13. Week 1: New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson (3) fumbles the ball on a tackle by Washington Commanders safety Will Harris (3) during the first quarter at Northwest Stadium. It was a rough Giants debut for Wilson (17 of 37 passing for 168 yards) as the Commanders won the game, 21-6. Linebacker Anfernee Jennings, drafted in 2020, is one of the two current Patriots (offensive lineman Mike Onwenu is the other) who overlapped with Stidham in New England. He sounded like Bill Belichick while describing Stidham – who took the job seriously, "prepared the right way," and acted like a NFL quarterback.

"'Stiddy' was a good teammate. He did a good job at doing his job," Jennings said. "I remember that he was a competitor.

"Those guys, they want to win, just like we want to win."

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels coached Stidham for two seasons in New England and then signed him after he took the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job in 2022. Stidham made his first two starts at the end of that season and replicated that with the Broncos the next season when he filled in for the benched Russell Wilson during head coach Sean Payton's first year in Denver.

Payton told reporters that he'd evaluated Stidham during his draft process when Payton was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Stidham's first career start, an overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers in which he threw 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, racked up 365 passing yards and averaged 10.7 yards per attempt, impressed him.

"I have a lot of respect for Josh (McDaniels), and I knew that he liked him," Payton said. "He really played well in that 49er game against a real good defense. That's when we became aggressive."

Stidham 'is going to rip it,' Broncos coach Sean Payton said

At the start of the season, Payton said he felt like his backup was one of the 32 best quarterbacks across the entire league.

"I think everyone feels that way," he said. "That's why that signing was important. You don't know when it's happening, but I'm glad it happened. I'm glad that acquisition took place.

"He's going to rip it, and that will be our approach. He has this calm demeanor that I think suits him well. He's played in big games, college."

Stidham has played behind mostly healthy quarterbacks during his professional career. Vrabel recalled negotiating with Stidham's representation during the offseason, and the player's agent joked that signing Stidham would guarantee good fortune for the Patriots. Payton won out and kept Stidham in Denver. But beyond the preseason and a handful of late-season affairs, there isn't much tape on Stidham.

Vrabel doubted whether McDaniels' relationship with Stidham would provide any game-planning advantage. But that doesn't mean they won't account for it, he said.

McDaniels described the 29-year-old as "smart, accurate, great human being, worked hard, great teammate."

"Just hadn't had an opportunity, based on the situations," said McDaniels, who added that he enjoyed working with him.

Patriots prepare for Broncos offense to operate on schedule

Patriots linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson, who has three sacks in two games this postseason, played against Stidham during their college days (Chaisson won a national title at Louisiana State in 2019). The team watched Stidham's preseason tape, Chaisson said, and said he can make the necessary throws from a clean pocket. Two All-Pros lead what is regarded as one of the league's best offensive lines in Denver and should provide that on a few occasions.

"We won't take that for granted at all," Chaisson said.

Not attempting a pass in a game in more than two years makes Stidham a mystery to plan against. The Patriots expect Payton will have the offense operating similarly to how it would with Nix.

"Until they show otherwise," Chaisson said.

By midweek, Vrabel had watched the approximately 400 regular-season snaps Stidham has taken across 20 appearances. Denver will stick to its strengths, Vrabel said.

"So, we'll have to be prepared for the plan and the things that they've shown. I'm sure there'll be some things that they haven't shown," Vrabel said. "He's more than capable to go out there and operate. It's why he's a backup, and one that was coveted around the league."

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's Wedding DJ Reveals What Really Happened During Dance with Victoria That Left Nicola in Tears

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham's wedding DJ, Fat Tony, discussed the couple's much-talked-about nuptials — and Brooklyn's claim his mom danced "inappropriately" on him — during a TV appearance on Friday, Jan. 23

NEED TO KNOW

  • According to Tony, the Beckham's friend Marc Anthony told Brooklyn to place his hands on his mother Victoria Beckham's hips during a Latin dance at the wedding

  • "If he feels that it was inappropriate and awkward, it was inappropriate and awkward," Tony said of Brooklyn's viral Instagram post claiming that his mom "hijacked" his first dance with wife Nicola

Brooklyn BeckhamandNicola Peltz Beckham's wedding DJ is shedding light on the dance between Brooklyn and his momVictoria Beckhamat the nuptials, calling the moment "really awkward."

During an appearance onITV'sThis Morningon Friday, Jan. 23, DJ Fat Tony explained that he had provided musical entertainment for several Beckham events before being asked to DJ at the Brooklyn and Nicola'swedding in April 2022in Palm Beach, Fla.

Tony, 60, told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary that he wanted to share what he witnessed at the event as he'd been "inundated" with questions since Brooklyn, 26, claimed in a six-slide post on Instagram that hismom "hijacked" his first dancewith Nicola, 31, and danced "very inappropriately" on him.

"It was a three-day wedding," Tony recalled. "I did the welcome party, then I did the wedding and a brunch on the Sunday, which was the most awkward part of it all because everything that had gone on on the actual wedding night was discussed among the guests the next morning."

The award-winning DJ explained thatMarc Anthonycalled Victoria, 51, to the dance floor while a Latin song was playing, and according to him, it was the timing that was chosen for Victoria to dance with her son that seemed inappropriate, rather than the moves themselves.

"There was no slut dropping, there was no black PVC catsuits, there was noSpice Girlaction," he recalled. "...The word inappropriate, why I said it was inappropriate as well ... it was the timing."

"Basically, Marc Anthony was performing on stage, he then called Brooklyn on to stage. Brooklyn went onto the stage and everyone was expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance. Marc Anthony asked 'the most beautifulest woman in the room' to come to the stage and he says, 'Victoria, come to the stage.' "

Tony recalled Brooklyn being "devastated" when his mom joined him in front of the wedding guests "because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife," while Nicola left the room "crying her eyes out."

"Brooklyn's stuck there on stage and then they do this dance and Marc Anthony's like going, 'Put your hands on your mother's hips,' and it's Latin, it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room," said Tony of Brooklyn's dance with Victoria.

A rep for Anthony did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Tony added that the Beckhams are a "very dancey, close-knit family" who "love to dance," and "what we deem to be inappropriate is not what Brooklyn feels."

In his series of bombshell Instagram posts, Brooklyn said hundreds of wedding guests witnessed his mom dancing "very inappropriately" with him when he should've been having a romantic moment with his new wife.

"My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song," Brooklyn wrote. "In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where the scheduled was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life."

"We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment," he added of theirAugust 2025 vow renewal.

The Cloud 23 hot sauce CEO added that he does not want to "reconcile" with his family and accused mom Victoria and dadDavid Beckhamof trying "endlessly to ruin" his relationship with Nicola.

Arguing everyone deems "inappropriate" behavior differently, DJ Fat Tony said, "This is all about how Brooklyn feels. If he feels that it was inappropriate and awkward, it was inappropriate and awkward."

Tony said it's "taken a lot" for Brooklyn to speak out on his social media in an attempt to change the narrative after years of being called a "nepo baby" and told "he should be grateful that he's got the family name."

The DJ added that if Brooklyn didn't share his side of the story, people would make their own assumptions about the situation.

When asked why Brooklyn didn't speak directly to his parents rather than sharing a statement on social media, Tony said, "He's done all that. It got to the point for him where he couldn't take this anymore and wanted to step back from it, and that was his way of doing closure."

Revealing he didn't talk to his own dad for 30 years, the DJ added, "Do I think they'll talk again? Of course, they will at some point. They are family. But the noise needs to die down, people need to step back from it. We live in a world where everyone is judge, jury, and executioner."

Tony recalled that Brooklyn and Nicola's "devastated" reaction to the dance became the talk of the nuptials and not many people then attended their brunch the following day.

"Everyone was talking about it, and how sad that part of it was," he said, adding, "But Victoria was thrown into that situation, and I think too much has been read into it … in the sense of too many stories being added to it. The dance is a very small part of the bigger problem."

Tony's appearance on the show came a day after he mocked the situation with a video of a character in BBC showMotherland, dancing outrageously to the Lil' Kleine and Ronnie Flex song "Drank & Drugs" in front of her school mom friends.

"POV: Victoria Beckham during Brooklyn's first dance," read the text over the video shared onInstagram, while Tony added in the caption, "'Actual video footage it's true I was there!"

A day after Brooklyn's bombshell posts, a sourcetold PEOPLEthat he and Nicola don't ever want footage of the wedding dance to see the light of day.

"Brooklyn and Nicola are the only ones who have access to video," a source familiar with the situation told PEOPLE.

"It's an extremely embarrassing moment for them and it would not be good for Brooklyn's mental health to see this circulating online," the insider added. "It's one of the most humiliating moments of his life and he doesn't want it to be seen by the world."

PEOPLE previously reported in May 2025 that a source exclusively saidVictoria left Nicola "in tears"after "ruining" the actress' first dance with her husband at their nuptials.

"Marc Anthony, who is a friend of the Beckhams, offered to perform as a gift at the wedding," the source said at the time. "Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, 'The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on up ... Victoria Beckham!' "

The source added that Nicola allegedly "felt that Victoria ruined her wedding, and couldn't understand why."

"It was such a jaw-dropping moment that it left the whole room in absolute shock — you could hear a pin drop," a second source told PEOPLE at the time.

A representative for Anthony did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment at the time.

Earlier this month, a source with knowledge of the situation thentold PEOPLEthat Victoria and David, 50, "have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward," amid the family's ongoing rift.

"David loves his kids. They are his everything," the insider added.

Reps for Brooklyn, Nicola, Victoria and David have not responded to PEOPLE's previous requests for comment.

Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, K-pop and more: AP predicts who will win at the 2026 Grammys

The competition is fierce.Kendrick Lamar'sdominance continues atthe 2026 Grammy Awards, where he leads the nominations with nine. He's followed closely byLady Gaga,Jack Antonoff and Canadian record producer/songwriter Cirkut, who boast seven each. Then it's Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Leon Thomas and Serban Ghenea with six.

But who will win? Who will make history at the 68th Grammy Awards on Feb. 1?

The Associated Press'Maria ShermanandJonathan Landrum Jr.break down the close races for Grammy glory.

Album of the year

"Debí Tirar Más Fotos," Bad Bunny; "Swag," Justin Bieber; "Man's Best Friend," Sabrina Carpenter; "Let God Sort Em Out," Clipse, Pusha T and Malice; "Mayhem," Lady Gaga; "GNX," Kendrick Lamar; "Mutt," Leon Thomas; "Chromakopia," Tyler, the Creator.

SHERMAN: Starting off with the big guns.Last year's "Cowboy Carter" victorywas long overdue for Beyoncé. That, and an evolving Recording Academy electorate, is enough to inspire hope that winners may soon be in sync with the current cultural zeitgeist. But change is slow, and it is most likely Lady Gaga will be awarded. "Mayhem" is a great album, but her victory will be more about narrative — recognizing a game-changing artist with her return-to-form record — instead of who should really win this year. That's Bad Bunny's"Debí Tirar Más Fotos."(Let's not forget all Latin Recording Academymembers were invited to jointhe Recording Academy in 2025, but it is not clear how many can actually vote.) The world would love to see a Spanish-language album win for the very first time — Bad Bunny was once again the most streamed artist, globally, on Spotify last year.

There's also "GNX," which deserves the victory, as well. But the 2025 ceremonyfelt like Kendrick Lamar's victory lap,and even with three rap albums nominated in the top spot, it's not clear whether voters will give him the recognition he deserves.

LANDRUM: I understand the appeal of a breakthrough narrative here, especially with such a globally representative field. But this category tends to land with the project that moved most cleanly across multiple spaces without explanation."GNX" stayed activeacross music, sports and everyday culture throughout the year. Let's not forget that songs "luther" and "Squabble Up" sustained long-term engagement; "TV Off" entered everyday language with the "Mustard" catchphrase; and "Dodger Blue" extended the project into sports culture during the Los Angeles Dodgers' championship run. Much respect to the other nominees here, but Lamar delivered a tightly structured album that circulated naturally. That kind of sustained presence usually carries more weight than momentum built around a single lane.

Record of the year

"DtMF," Bad Bunny; "Manchild," Sabrina Carpenter; "Anxiety," Doechii; "Wildflower," Billie Eilish; "Abracadabra," Lady Gaga; "luther," Kendrick Lamar with SZA; "The Subway," Chappell Roan; "APT.," Rosé and Bruno Mars.

LANDRUM: If one song feels both inescapable and effortless, it's "APT." I look at what songs listeners — especially younger ones including my soon-to-be 6-year-old — stillkeep in rotation. The song easily translates across age groups, platforms and borders. Bruno Mars brought a proven sense of structure that voters respond to, while Rosé's presence reflects the academy's growing comfort with global pop influence. If this wins, which I believe will happen, Rosé would become the first K-pop artist to take the record of the year milestone. I think it's time to make history.

SHERMAN: For all of the reasons you've listed above — as well as its total ubiquity and cultural meshing — "APT." is the most likely candidate. But because record of the year is meant to highlight performance and production (as opposed to song of the year, which focuses on songwriting and composition), "luther" should win.

Song of the year (songwriter's award)

"Abracadabra," Henry Walter, Lady Gaga and Andrew Watt; "Anxiety," Jaylah Hickmon; "APT.," Amy Allen, Christopher Brody Brown, Rogét Chahayed, Henry Walter, Omer Fedi, Philip Lawrence, Bruno Mars, Chae Young Park and Theron Thomas; "DtMF," Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, Scott Dittrich, Benjamin Falik, Hugo René Sención and Tyler Thomas Spry; "Golden," EJAI and Mark Sonnenblick; "luther," Jack Antonoff, Roshwita Larisha Bacha, Matthew Bernard, Ink, Scott Bridgeway, Sam Dew, Kendrick Lamar, Mark Anthony Spears, Solána Rowe and Kamasi Washington; "Manchild," Amy Allen, Jack Antonoff and Sabrina Carpenter; "Wildflower," Billie Eilish O'Connell and Finneas O'Connell.

SHERMAN: There's no "Not Like Us" this year, but there is a lot of competition.Billie Eilishand Bruno Mars are back — two established favorites of Grammy voters — it would be a third win for both in this category, the most of any artist. And it wouldn't be wise to count out the gargantuan "Golden," though it may be awarded elsewhere. Signs point to Lady Gaga for this one. She has been nominated in this category four times with no victories."Abracadabra"could take it home — and it will feel more justified than an album of the year win for many.

LANDRUM: I agree. The competition is strong here. But this category often comes down to precision. And "Abracadabra" is tightly constructed and intentional, shaped by Lady Gaga's renewed focus on lyric construction and melodic intent. That wassomething we spoke aboutahead of her album. You hear that discipline in the writing itself with every line pulling its weight.

Best new artist

Olivia Dean; Katseye; The Marias; Addison Rae; sombr; Leon Thomas; Alex Warren; Lola Young.

LANDRUM: This category increasingly rewards artists who arrive with a fully formed identity. Leon Thomas separated himself by presenting a cohesive body of work rather than a moment driven by visibility alone."Mutt" reflects songwriting discipline, genre fluency and a clear point of view shaped by years of experience. That foundation tends to resonate when voters are thinking long term.

SHERMAN: Points have been made! Thomas is an exemplar candidate. But there are other factors. If streaming was the ultimate metric, this would go to"Ordinary" singer Alex Warren. But it rarely is. In this category,Olivia Dean's namehas been uttered the most.

Best pop duo/group performance

"Defying Gravity," Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande; "Golden," HUNTR/X: EJAE, Audrey Nuna, REI AMI; "Gabriela," Katseye; "APT.," Rosé and Bruno Mars, "30 for 30," SZA with Kendrick Lamar.

SHERMAN: Three of these nominees could be considered K-pop, or at the very least, K-pop-adjacent: "Golden," "APT.," and "Gabriela." If any of them win, it will mark thefirst time any K-pop act has wonany Grammy — and who wouldn't want to see that? "Golden" feels most likely. If the Lamar and SZA song here was "Luther" instead of "30 for 30," this would be a different conversation.

LANDRUM: For me, this is a toss-up between "Golden" and "APT." But I'm going to give a slight nod to "APT." What sets the song apart is balance. It also features a voter favorite:Bruno Mars. The collaboration with him and Rosé feels settled, with neither artist competing for space. Mars understands how to shape performances that voters consistently recognize, and Rosé fits seamlessly into that structure. In this category, cohesion often matters more than ambition.

Best rap album

"Let God Sort Em Out," Clipse, Pusha T and Malice; "Glorious," GloRilla; "God Does Like Ugly," JID, "GNX," Kendrick Lamar, "Chromakopia," Tyler, the Creator.

LANDRUM: If I believe "GNX" deserves album of the year, then this category shouldn't even be a debate. Samelogic would apply to Tyler, the Creator:You shouldn't crown the album at the top and ignore it in its home genre. "GNX" is cohesive, quotable and culturally dominant without chasing the algorithm. That's rap at its highest level.

SHERMAN: It's a no contest pick. "GNX" is more than an album, but a paragon — and should be awarded as such.

Best contemporary country album

"Patterns," Kelsea Ballerini; "Snipe Hunter," Tyler Childers; "Evangeline vs the Machine," Eric Church; "Beautifully Broken," Jelly Roll; "Postcards from Texas," Miranda Lambert.

SHERMAN: This year, the Grammys renamed country albumto contemporary country album and added a traditional country album category, a distinction that exists in other genres. But the news arrived right after "Cowboy Carter" won best country album, inspiring backlash online. In this inaugural edition, "contemporary" seems to mean "country that includes elements of other genres and/or left-of-center narratives." In the case of the former, Eric Church's inventive country-rock may sway voters over Kelsea Ballerini's pop affectations, Jelly Roll's hip-hop-informed phrasingor Tyler Childers' eclecticism.

LANDRUM: Like Jelly Rollsaid in an interview with Maria,it's his time. And I sure do believe him. This album fits the newly defined category almost too perfectly: emotional, honest, genre-fluid production and storytelling that connects beyond traditional country audiences. He expanded this genre, and I believe voters love a moment that feels both timely and redemptive. This checks both boxes.

Best R&B Album

"Beloved," Giveon; "Why Not More?," Coco Jones; "The Crown," Ledisi; "Escape Room," Teyana Taylor; "Mutt," Leon Thomas.

LANDRUM: There's only one album in this category that's also up for album of the year, and that matters."Mutt" distinguished itselfthrough restraint, allowing songwriting and performance to lead rather than production excess. This should be a lock … which is exactly why I'm bracing for voters to surprise me.

SHERMAN: "Mutt" is a clear standout here. AsTy Dolla $ign told APin October, "There's definitely going to bea comeback in R&Bvery soon." And who did he name as its leader? "We're talking Leon specifically."

Best dance/electronic album

"EUSEXUA," FKA twigs; "Ten Days," Fred again …; "Fancy That," PinkPantheress; "Inhale/Exhale," Rüfüs du Sol; "F--- U Skrillex You Think Ur Andy Warhol but UR Not! 3," Skrillex

SHERMAN: There are a lot of heavyweights in this category: Fred again …, Rüfüs du Sol,PinkPantheressand more.FKA twigs' "EUSEXUA"made a big splash in 2025. But all signs point to Skrillex, one of the most Grammy-awarded dance/electronic artists, with nine career wins.

LANDRUM: This field is rich with compelling artistic statements. What gives Skrillex's "F--- U Skrillex You Think Ur Andy Warhol but UR Not! 3" an edge is direction. It pushes sound forward while maintaining structure. That balance between experimentation and clarity has historically resonated with voters in this category.

Best Latin pop album

"Cosa Nuestra," Rauw Alejandro; "Bogotá (Deluxe)," Andrés Cepeda; "Tropicoqueta," Karol G; "Cancionera," Natalia Lafourcade; "¿Y ahora qué?," Alejandro Sanz.

SHERMAN: This trophy is likely headed toNatalia Lafourcadeor Alejandro Sanz, who took home record of the yearat the 2025 Latin Grammysa few months ago. Even though this is a pop category, I sense voters will go traditional. The Latin categories at the Grammys often reflect the top winners at the Latin Grammys, too.

LANDRUM: There's a strong case for tradition in this field, but "Tropicoqueta" reflects forward movement. Karol G operates with clear creative authority here, balancing accessibility with cultural specificity. When voters meet the moment rather than default to familiarity, this type of project tends to stand out.

Thousands rally against ICE on anniversary of Trump's second term

"We are witnessing a dangerous pattern of behavior by ICE agents as they traverse select communities across the United States imposing their version of a warped mandate by the Trump Administration," said Angelica Salas, CHIRLA executive director in a statement.

"These are not normal times and all communities who wish to see their neighborhoods freed from these military operations and abusive behavior should express their discontent and join this national day of action to say 'Not In Our Name,' 'Not On Our Watch,'" Salas said.

The L.A. demonstration comes as federal immigration enforcement agents have continued to conduct operations in Southern California. Earlier January there was reported ICE activity in the Fashion District, and on Jan. 21, afederal agent fired shotsin a "targeted operation" in Willowbrook near Compton.
