While the Northeast enjoys some reprieve from thewinter weatherthat has battered the region, forecasters say, the West may get a taste of frigid temperatures.
AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said thatair from the Pacific Oceanwill make its way across the country in the next two weeks.
"While this will bring a much-needed break from frigid conditions and it may feel warmer than it actually is, it can create problems due to thaw-and-freeze cycles, foggy episodes and storms that bring areas of freezing rain, sleet and wet snow," Sosnowski added.
As the warm air moves east, it will leave in its wake a cold snap for the western part of the country.
AccuWeather meteorologist Kai Kerkow said the high-pressure systemparked over Californiathat haskept winter weather at bayappears likely to weaken.
"This change in the pattern will be beneficial for California's snowpack and reservoirs, as the snowpack is running well below average across much of the state," Kerkow said.

"There is the possibility for a northern-tracking storm that can bring snow to the Great Lakes and Northeast Monday night into Wednesday," AccuWeather senior meteorologist Adam Douty said. "This storm will be on a surge of less harsh conditions as Arctic air retreats north."
However, Accuweather predicted that many locations in the Northeast will see temperatures rise into the 40s from Tuesday into Wednesday.
South weather forecast
The South will be the beneficiary of the easing winter weather, as the region sees relief from the sweeping cold temperatures and snow.
"Some of the warm air that has been building over the southern part of the Plains will be carried to the Atlantic Coast with highs rebounding into the 50s, 60s and 70s," Sonoski wrote. "Later this week, temperatures inAtlanta may hit 70 degreesfor the first time since Jan. 10."
Recent winter storms blanketed the region with snow, stretching across North Carolina, and brought a cold snap that ranked amongthe worst Florida experienced in decades, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.
