The Guthrie family has so far released three videos on social media, in which they addressed their mother's alleged kidnapper. In the first video, posted on Feb. 4,Savannah Guthrie and her siblings said they were "ready to talk" with the person behind the ransom notes.

"However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated," Savannah Guthrie said. "We need to know without a doubt that she's alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us."

Asecond video, posted on Feb. 5, featured only Savannah's brother Camron Guthrie, who said the family was still "waiting for contact" from their mother's kidnapper.

"Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you," he said in the short message. "We haven't heard anything directly. We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so that we can move forward."

Ina third video, posted Feb. 7, Savannah Guthrie again spoke alongside her brother and sister. This video was posted one day after authorities said they were inspecting a "new message regarding Nancy Guthrie." No details about this latest message have been disclosed. Authorities also have not said if this message was written by the same person behind the previous notes.

"We received your message and we understand," Savannah Guthrie said in the Feb. 7 video. "We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay."

FBI special agent in charge Heith Janke previously confirmed that the FBI consulted with the Guthrie family on the release of their original video addressing their mother's kidnapper.

"While we advise and recommend from a law enforcement perspective, any action taken on any ransom is ultimately decided by the family," he said in a Feb. 5 briefing, adding that it's the "family's decision of what they film and what they put out."

Paul Thomas Anderson asks 'Melania' to remove 'Phantom Thread' score

Jonny GreenwoodandPaul Thomas Andersonare pushing back after music from "Phantom Thread" showed up in the "Melania" documentary.

Greenwood, the Radiohead guitarist and Oscar-nominated composer, has shared a joint statement with Anderson objecting to part of the musician's score for Anderson's 2017 movie being used in the recent Amazon MGM Studios documentary aboutfirst lady Melania Trump.

The pair have requested that the "Phantom Thread" music be taken out of "Melania."

"It has come to our attention that a piece of music from 'Phantom Thread' has been used in the 'Melania' documentary," Greenwood and Anderson said in a statement shared with USA TODAY. "While Jonny Greenwood does not own the copyright in the score, Universal failed to consult Jonny on this third-party use which is a breach of his composer agreement. As a result Jonny and Paul Thomas Anderson have asked for it to be removed from the documentary."

Paul Thomas Anderson speaks onstage during the Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 4, 2026, in Santa Monica, California.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Universal and Amazon for comment.

Greenwood received a best original score Oscar nomination for the music he composed for "Phantom Thread," Anderson's 2017 drama starringDaniel Day-Lewisas a fictional dressmaker. Greenwood wasnominated for an Oscar again this yearfor his score for Anderson's most recent movie, "One Battle After Another," which is widely viewed as the frontrunner to win the Academy Award for best picture.

Greenwood, the lead guitarist for Radiohead, has also composed music for movies like "The Power of the Dog" and "Spencer," in addition to his frequent work with Anderson.

Jonny Greenwood attends The Ivors 2019 at Grosvenor House on May 23, 2019 in London, England.

Directed byBrett Ratner, "Melania" follows the first lady of the United States in the days leading up toPresident Donald Trump'ssecond inauguration in 2025. In addition to the track titled "Barbara Rose" from the "Phantom Thread" score, thefilm also includes musicby the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley, among other artists.

The documentary was released in theaters on Jan. 30 to almost universallynegative reviews from critics, though it had abetter-than-expected opening weekendat the domestic box office. "Melania" remains far short of being profitable based on its ticket sales, but Amazon will recoup some of the costs it spent on acquiring and marketing the film through ads and streaming service sign-ups.

Man convicted of killing a traveling salesman scheduled for 1st Florida execution of 2026

STARKE, Fla. (AP) — A man convicted of killing a traveling salesman during a robbery is set to be executed Tuesday evening in the first lethal injection this year in Florida.

Associated Press

Ronald Palmer Heath, 64, is scheduled to receive a three-drug injection starting at 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison near Starke. Heath was convicted in 1990 of first-degree murder, robbery with a deadly weapon and other charges in the killing of Michael Sheridan the previous year.

The state's first scheduled execution of 2026 follows arecord 19 executions in Florida last year.Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis oversaw more executions in a single year in 2025 than any other Florida governor since the death penalty was reinstated in the U.S. in 1976. The previous record was eight executions in 2014.

According to court records, Heath and his brother Kenneth Heath met Sheridan at a Gainesville bar in May 1989. After hanging out at the bar for some time, the three men agreed to go somewhere else to smoke marijuana.

At some point, the brothers plotted to rob the other man, investigators said. Ronald Heath drove the group to a remote area, where Kenneth Heath pulled a handgun on Sheridan. The man initially refused to give the brothers anything, and Kenneth Heath shot Sheridan in the chest.

As Sheridan emptied his pockets, Ronald Heath began kicking the man and stabbing him with a hunting knife, prosecutors said. Kenneth Heath then shot Sheridan twice in the head.

The brothers dumped Sheridan's body in a wooded area and returned to the Gainesville bar to take items from his rental car, according to the court record. It said the brothers made multiple purchases with Sheridan's credit cards the next day at a Gainesville mall.

Ronald Heath was arrested several weeks later at his home in Douglas, Georgia, after investigators connected him to the stolen credit cards. Officers recovered clothing purchased with the stolen cards, as well as Sheridan's watch, according to court records.

Kenneth Heath was also charged with Sheridan's murder, but was sentenced to life in prison as part of a plea agreement.

The Florida Supreme Court denied appeals filed by Ronald Heath last week. His attorneys had argued that Florida corrections officials had mismanaged its own death penalty protocols, that the state's secretive clemency process blocked due process, that Heath's incarceration as a juvenile stunted his brain development and that jurors did not recommend the death penalty unanimously.

Heath still has similar appeals pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.

A total of47 peoplewere executed in the U.S. in 2025. Florida led the way with a flurry of death warrants signed by DeSantis. Alabama, South Carolina and Texas tied for second with five executions each that year.

Two more Florida executions have already been scheduled for later this month and next month.Melvin Trotter, 65, is scheduled to die on Feb. 24, and the execution ofBilly Leon Kearse, 53, is set to follow exactly a week later on March 3.

All Florida executions are carried out via lethal injection using a sedative, a paralytic and a drug that stops the heart, according to the Department of Corrections.
