NEED TO KNOW

  • Dutch computer engineer Thomas de Wolf invented the custom car for Blub, in which the fish swims in a water tank to drive it

  • Blub traveled 40 feet and 3.46 inches to secure the record

Agoldfishnamed Blub reeled in a world record, and all he needed to do was just keep swimming in order to drive his custom-built vehicle to the victory line.

Computer engineer and pet owner Thomas de Wolf and Blub, using a car that detected the fish's movement inside a water tank to direct the wheels, earned the record for greatest distance covered in a motion-sensing vehicle by a goldfish in one minute, according toGuinness World Records(GWR).

The Dutch man brought his motorized invention and Blub, an Italian goldfish, to GWR's Italian TV showLo Show dei Recordto secure the record in front of host Gerry Scotti and a GWR adjudicator.

"Normally, my job is quite monotonous, so I wanted to create something that would entertain people, turning my 'serious' job into something fun," he said in a GWR news release. "The objective is to show people what is possible to achieve with this kind of technology."

In Blub's 60-second attempt, the goldfish traveled 40 feet and 3.46 inches (a little over 12 meters), which was more than the roughly 16 feet and 4 inches (5 meters) needed to secure the world record.

Sofia Greenacre, the GWR adjudicator, measured the attempt by counting the number of times the colored marks on the wheels hit the ground since the car was moving in several directions, with reverse movement allowed.

"Victory! ... How am I going to explain to Blub now that he has a world record title?" de Wolf said after GWR presented him and Blub with a world record certificate and medal on the set of the TV show.

Aside from the record, the show's host wondered about the real-world implications of motion-sensing inventions like de Wolf's.

The new record holder replied, "I would love to maybe one day be able to help people with mobility issues."

Kathleen Bradley became the first full-time Black model onThe Price Is Rightin 1990, a role that she and her onscreen successor Claudia Jordan claim opened them up to 'raging' racism from fans, producers, and the show's longtime host himself,Bob Barker.

"As time went on, at some point it got back to me that some of the fans were writing negative things about me being on the show, as a Black model," Bradley alleged in newE! docuseriesDirty Rotten Scandals. "[It was] just not a good feeling... And one of the members of the production team brought to my attention that, inside a production meeting, when models weren't in there, they would use the N-word."

The former "Barker's Beauty" added, "I think people should know the truth — the good, the bad, and the ugly."

FellowPrice Is RightalumHolly Hallstromclaimed that Barker's virulent racism led to the explosive altercation between Barker and costar Dian Parkinson, who had an affair with the hostafter his wife's deathand during his subsequent relationship with Nancy Burnett. Hallstrom claimed that Parkinson dating celebrities, "including several Black men," became a point of contention between the two.

"[Burnett] said, 'Oh my gosh, Bob has no idea that he's had sex with a woman who has had sex with Black men. Bob has always said that Black men are the most diseased people on Earth," Hallstrom shared in the documentary, noting the racism in the situation didn't surprise her because of Barker's status as a white man of a certain age.

A decade after Bradley joined the show, Jordan becomes the second Black "Barker's Beauty." Time, she said in the documentary, had not lessened the racism on set one bit. She said that producer Phil Wayne specifically would regularly make comments that "carried on that old spirit of racism," and alleged he sexually harassed her because she was Black.

"'Let's make a reverse Oreo, Claudia, you get in the middle of the two white models,'" she recalled him saying to her. "Or [he'd] tell me I'm the 'ass model' because stereotypically, Black women have a larger behind — and I guess that's why he wanted to grab and feel it."

Jordan alleged that Barker and the producers' bigotry extended toPrice Is Rightcontestants, as well, citing "a darker side to the show."

"They would go through potential audience members in the line looking for contestants. It was stereotypes that were definitely pushed on the show, negative stereotypes of Black people like the overweight Black woman, or the extra loud, ridiculous person," Jordan said. "Then I started to hear that they were only allowed to have two Black contestants on the show at a time, and that was a direct order from Bob Barker. And to let Barker know the race of the contestant that was about to come on down, they would have a letter B written on the card."

She added, "It was pretty sad. A Black contestant may try to hug Bob Barker and he'd kind of shrink away from them."

Jordan said that having enough, she announced her exit onstage at the end of a show. "I got the microphone and said, 'I just want to say something. I can't do this anymore.... I'm going to miss this, but this is my last day,'" she recalled.

The next day, Jordan claimed, she sought out the same lawyer who represented Hallstrom when she sued Barker for age, weight, and medical discrimination, wrongful termination, and malicious prosecution. Jordan filed her own suit for sexual harassment and racial discrimination in 2004. According to Jordan,The Price Is Right's production company settled with her out of court.

Barker, whodied in 2023, had hosted the daytime TV staple since 1972.

In response to the claims made in the explosive TV documentary, Barker's longtime representative, Roger Neal, denied any allegations of sexual misconduct against Barker or the show in a statement toUSA TODAYWednesday.

"Barker was and is beloved, and people to this day love him," Neal said. "He was part of the fabric of American pop culture. He was the greatest MC in TV history. I was honored to have represented him."

NEED TO KNOW

  • The pop star shared her "half of the story" in an Instagram Stories post on March 22

  • Jorginho alleged that Roan sent a security guard to accuse his 11-year-old daughter of disrespecting and harassing the musician while they all dined at the same hotel in São Paulo ahead of the singer's set at Lollapalooza Brazil

Chappell Roanis sharing her side of the story, following an alleged incident with soccer playerJorginhoand his young daughter.

In a Saturday, March 21, Instagram Stories post, Jorginho, 34, alleged that the pop star, 28,sent a security guard to accuse his 11-year-old daughter of disrespecting and harassing the musicianwhile they all dined at the same hotel in São Paulo. (He did not name the child, but appeared to be referring to 11-year-oldAda Law, whom his wife, Catherine Harding, welcomed with her ex,Jude Law.)

A day later, Roan reacted to the claims in her own Instagram Stories post, speaking out about the situation for the first time.

"I'm just going to tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard, who is not my personal security," she began the March 22 video.

"I didn't even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me, no one bothered me," the "Pink Pony Club" singer continued. "Like, I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel, [and] I think these people were staying at the hotel as well."

Roan then said, "I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not."

"They did not come up to me. They weren't doing anything," she added. "It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions, when they have no reason to believe, because there's no action even taken."

In another Instagram Stories post, Roan reacted to online commentary poking fun at the situation. "I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy," she said.

"I'm sorry to the mother and child, that someone was assuming something, that you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that," continued theGrammy Award winner.

In Jorginho's Instagram Stories post directed at Roan, he wrote, "My wife [Catherine Harding, who also goes byCat Cavelli] is in São Paulo for Lollapalooza Brazil."

"This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited. She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire," he continued, referring to Roan ahead of her Lollapalooza Brazil set — where she later gave ashout out to her security team.

"By coincidence, they're staying at the same hotel as this artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognized her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her," Jorginho then wrote of the alleged interaction, highlighting, "The worst part is she didn't even approach her. She simply walked past the singer's table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn't say anything, didn't ask for anything."

After his daughter walked by, Jorginho alleged in the post, "A large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn't allow my daughter to 'disrespect' or 'harass' other people."

"Honestly, I don't know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment," the soccer pro continued. He then claimed that the security guard "even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears."

"My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot," Jorginho, born Jorge Luiz Frello Filho, added.

He continued, "It's sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this."

"I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child," Jorginho concluded, then tagging Roan's Instagram account as he wrote in all-caps: "WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION."

Roan is in the country for Lollapalooza Brazil, which is taking place between March 20 and March 22 at the Autódromo de Interlagos in São Paulo.

Other performers include Cypress Hill,Katseye,Lola YoungandMarina, among others.

Roan has long been anoutspoken advocate for boundaries between herself and fans, as well as paparazzi.

Earlier this month, she made headlines forcalling out a group of photographers and admirerswho waited outside the restaurant where she was dining for "harassing" her.

Representatives for Roan and the Palácio Tangará have not responded to PEOPLE's requests for comment.

Children Find Skeleton Sitting Upright Next to a Playground — Marking the Fifth Similar Find This Month Alone

NEED TO KNOW

  • The find marked the latest in a series, as four other skeletons were found in similar situations just this month alone

  • Each skeleton has been found facing westward

A group of young children got an unexpected surprise while spending time on their school's playground.

The kids discovered a skeleton sitting upright and sticking out of a "circular pit" near the Josephine Baker primary school in the French city of Dijon this month, France's National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP) said in anews release.

The find marked the latest in a series, as four other skeletons were similarly discovered in upward positions, facing westward, with their hands resting in their laps, according to the release.

Each discovery was made just this month alone.

The skeletons are believed to be those of the Gauls, a group that lived in Europe during the Iron Age and the Roman period, perBritannica.

Last year, 13 other skeletons were found in the country, not far from the same area, according to the INRAP.

"This seated position is atypical," archaeo-anthropologist Annamaria Latron toldLe Monde.

She added: "We are more used to burials of reclining individuals, in general on their backs, with the lower limbs extended and not bent like this."

Over the years, researchers have found many skeletons of Gauls.

Except for one skeleton that belonged to a child, the remains have all been those of men who were between about 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-9, with well-preserved teeth.

"Their bones display traces of osteoarthritis, suggesting intense physical activity," Latron said.

Archaeologists are still unsure why the bodies have been buried in such unique ways.

"We do not have a preferred hypothesis," Latron said. "We're missing the surface layer, which was above the tombs."

"Being an archaeologist can be a very frustrating profession," she added.

What we know on day 23 of the US and Israel's war with Iran

Iran has vowed a heavy retaliation if US President Donald Trump carries out a threat to bomb Iran's power plants, with Tehran warning that critical infrastructure across the region may be "irreversibly destroyed."

Trump said he would order the bombardment if the Strait of Hormuz was not fully open to shipping within 48 hours, as disruption of the key waterway continues.

Here are the latest developments:

What are the main headlines?

  • Strike threat: US President Donald Trump threatened to "hit and obliterate" Iran's power plants if Tehran doesn't open the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for the world's energy resources, within 48 hours. The threat marks an escalation in rhetoric from Trump, who's previously dangled the option of hitting Iranian infrastructure but cautioned it would impair the country's ability to rebuild. It's also a tacit acknowledgement that the strait's closure provides Iran significant leverage.

  • Iran's response: Prompted by Trump's words, Iranian officials and state media vowed retaliation if that were to happen. Critical infrastructure and energy facilities in the Middle East could be "irreversibly destroyed" should Iranian power plants be targeted, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said in comments posted on X on Sunday.

  • Israel hit: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Tehran for targeting a civilian area as he visited the scene of an Iranian strike on the southern Israeli city of Arad. At least 84 people were injured, including 10 seriously, in the strike Saturday. A separate Iranian missile also hit the city of Dimona, injuring several and destroying a small building.

  • Helicopter crash: Seven people on board a helicopter in Qatar were killed when it crashed Sunday morning, according to the country's Interior Ministry. Qatar's foreign ministry said three Turkish nationals were on the aircraft.

  • US-UK base targeted: The UK denounced what it called "Iran's reckless attacks" after missiles were fired toward the Indian Ocean military base of Diego Garcia. The joint US-UK base is about 3,800km (2,360 miles) from Iran and can accommodate long-range American bombers. The attempt has renewed questions about Tehran's military capabilities and how far its missiles can reach.

What's happening in Iran and Lebanon?

  • Waves of Israeli strikes: The Israeli military says it launched simultaneous "wide-scale" waves of strikes on Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon this weekend, hitting more than 200 targets. In Iran, the Israel Defense Forces said it struck dozens of compounds storing weapons and ballistic missiles. It also said it completed two waves of strikes in Beirut and additional areas in Lebanon, hitting "key Hezbollah command centers."

  • Israel: Police officers and bomb disposal experts are working to secure and isolate "impact sites of munitions" in central Israel, police said Sunday. It came just hours after Iranian strikes on the Israeli cities of Arad and Dimona.

  • Rising toll: In Iran, more than 18,000 civilians have been injured and more than 1,330 people – including at least 200 children – have been killed since the start of the war three weeks ago, according to the latest figures from the Iranian Red Crescent and Iran's UN ambassador. In Lebanon, more than 1,000 people have lost their lives, according to the country's health ministry, and more than 1 million have been displaced.

  • Crackdown: Iranian authorities have arrested 25 people for "spreading rumors, filming damages, and sending them to anti-revolutionary networks," the state-affiliated Tasnim news agency reported. The arrests come days after Iran executed three men in connection with nationwide anti-regime protests that took place at the start of the year.

What's the latest in the Strait of Hormuz?

  • Hormuz comments: The Strait of Hormuz remains open to all except Iran's "enemies," the country's representative to the UN maritime agency said in remarks published on Sunday shortly after US President Donald Trump gave Tehran 48 hours to open the waterway.

  • Protecting safe passage: The United Arab Emirates and Australia are the latest countries to express their willingness to contribute to efforts to ensure safe navigation of the Strait of Hormuz, joining a statement which now has 22 participating nations. It was not immediately clear what the efforts to secure the crucial waterway would look like.

  • Blast reported: An unknown projectile caused an explosion "in close proximity" to a bulk carrier off the central northern coast of the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said early Sunday. "All crew are reported safe," it added. Since the war began, Iran has hit several ships in the strait, from US-friendly nations.

  • History repeats: Suggestions of US Navy ships escorting oil tankers through the strait bring to mind the so-called Tanker War of the late 1980s, which involved some of the same weapons – and problems – a US escort force would face today. It provides lessons in how, in war, things can go wrong quickly in unexpected ways – with deadly consequences.

Avalanche In Italy Traps 25 Skiers

Two skiers died on Saturday after an avalanche in Italy northern mountains.

The Weather Channel

The avalanche happened at nearly 8000 feet of elevation near the town of Ratschings, close to the border with Austria.

The CNSAS rescue service's Bolzano emergency center reported that 25 skiers were caught in the avalanche. Besides the two dead, three were seriously injured and two lightly injured, it said.

The avalanche took place a little before noon local time. Six helicopters and around 80 rescuers from CNSAS, the Alpine Association, police and firefighters are involved in the rescue operation.

This season has seen an unusually high number of death from avalanches. European Avalanche Warning Services reports in its website avalanches.org that fatalities average 100 per season. As of March 16, reported deaths this season starting Oct. 1 were at 127, including 33 in Italy, 31 in France and 29 in Austria.

Experts attributed the deaths to an exceptionally unstable snowpack and the rush of skiing enthusiasts to off-piste slopes after recent heavy snowstorms.

Climate experts have argued that snow instability is due to rising temperatures and stronger winds.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Yes, Ament will play. The All-SEC freshman is still dealing with soreness but expects to play against the Cavaliers and through the rest of the tournament.

"We need Nate. He knows it, but he will give us everything that he can, and that's really all I can say about it. If it's up to him, he would play every minute if he could. We'll see game time," Barnes said.

What happened to Nate Ament?

Ament suffered a high ankle sprain against Missouri on Feb. 24, and then hurt his knee in the next game against Alabama on Feb. 28. He missed the final two regular season games as a result.
