She claimed her former longtime wealth manager, whom she identified as Eric Freymond, allegedly ran an international money-laundering scheme and used her assets to purchase Palazzo al Bosco, a 44-acre villa in Tuscany,The New York Timesreported, citing Italian outletCorriere Della Sera.

The property is known for its notable art collection.

Freymond denied the various claims that he misused several clients' money. He died in July 2025 in an apparent suicide.

In January, Andress filed a criminal complaint against Freymond's estate for embezzlement in Switzerland, per local outletBlick. New York town official found guilty of shooting lost DoorDash driver

GOSHEN, NY — An upstate New York town official who shot and injured alost DoorDash delivery driverlast year wasfound guilty of multiple assault and firearms chargeson Thursday, March 26, after about three days of deliberations.

USA TODAY

An Orange County Court jury convicted John Reilly III, 49, of first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, and eight counts of criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting of DoorDash driver Alpha Oumar Barry in May 2025. Reilly's sentencing is scheduled for May 18, and he faces up to 25 years behind bars on the top charge.

Reilly, the highway superintendent for the town of Chester, was arrested on May 3, 2025, a day after authorities said he shot at Barry's vehicle as the delivery driver attempted to leave Reilly's property. Chester is part of Orange County and is nearly 60 miles north of Manhattan.

After the verdict was delivered on March 26, Reilly was remanded to Orange County jail without bail. The $250,000 bail he had previously posted was exonerated and will be returned to his family.

Wrong-place shootings:Ralph Yarl, Kaylin Gillis shootings may renew debate about 'stand your ground' laws

"This defendant's depraved indifference to human life was appalling and nearly resulted in the death of an innocent man," Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said ina statementafter the verdict. "We can see firsthand the consequences of the use of dangerous firearms by an individual who had no business possessing a gun. ... I hope that the victim can continue to heal from the grievous wounds caused by this defendant's crimes."

During the trial, Reilly maintained that he hadacted in self-defenseand was concerned about the possibility of a home invasion or robbery. Defense attorney Thomas Arthur Kenniff said he was disappointed by the verdict and that the defense intended to appeal the decision.

"As I've said earlier, the inclusion of the depraved indifference charge we don't think it should have been in the indictment to begin with," Kenniff said after the verdict. "We don't think that should have been presented to the grand jury last year, and we don't think that it should have been allowed to go to the jury in this trial."

Prosecutors: DoorDash driver was lost while out on a delivery

At around 9 p.m. local time on May 2, 2025, Barry — who was 24 at the time and a legal immigrant from Guinea — approached Reilly's home in the town of Chester, according to prosecutors. Barry had been lost with a dead phone battery while making a food delivery and arrived, unarmed, at Reilly's front door with a bag of food, asking for help to charge his phone.

After asking Barry to leave, prosecutors said Reilly went inside the house and returned with a sling holster and a .45 caliber Glock pistol. As Barry was in the process of driving away in his Toyota Corolla, he was shot by Reilly in the driveway of the house.

Reilly had fired three shots, and one projectile pierced the trunk of the car and traveled through the driver's seat into Barry's lower back, according to prosecutors.

Bleeding, with a bullet in his body, prosecutors saidBarry went to a Cumberland Farms storeand asked for help before leaving only after a few minutes to find his family in the nearby city of Middletown. Later that night, Barry underwent a four-hour surgery, in which more than two feet of Barry's bowel was removed, and an ostomy bag was created.

During the investigation into the incident, prosecutors said authorities executed a search warrant at Reilly's residence and recovered .45 caliber casings in the kitchen and front lawn; the projectile from the front lawn; the shoulder holster and loaded .45 caliber Glock pistol; and seven other illegally possessed pistols.

Authorities later learned that while Reilly held a federal firearms license to sell firearms, he did not have a New York state firearms license or pistol permit to lawfully own his guns, according to prosecutors.

Reilly was charged with 14 counts after beingarraigned in June 2025 for attempted second-degree murder. Reilly's wife, Selina Nelson-Reilly, wasindicted by the district attorney in October 2025for hindering prosecution and 17-counts of tampering with evidence, for deleting 17 videos from a smart doorbell camera at their house.

Latest wrong-place shooting incident in US

Wrong-place shootingshave plagued communities across the United States for decades, with seemingly completely innocent people being fatally shot or seriously injured when they made simple mistakes. For years, such cases have renewed debates about the nation's patchwork of "stand your ground" laws.

Christopher Slobogin, law professor at Vanderbilt University and director of the school's Criminal Justice Program, previouslytold USA TODAYthat self-defense laws have proliferated in recent years, and opponents fear they could lead people to overreact and think they are legally justified.

Self-defense claims and "stand your ground" laws have been at the core of several controversial cases, including the killings ofTrayvon Martinin 2012 andAhmaud Arberyin 2020, as well as the trials ofKyle RittenhouseandDaniel Perryover the shooting deaths of protesters in 2020.

In recent years, similar cases to the shooting in Chester, New York, have sparked outrage and drawn national attention, including in November 2025, when an Indiana homeowner was accused offatally shooting a house cleanerwho went to the wrong residence.

In 2023, an86-year-old White manshotRalph Yarlafter the Black teenager went to the wrong house in Missouri. Two days after the incident, a 20-year-old womanwas shot and killed by a homeowner in upstate New Yorkwhile in a car that mistakenly turned into the wrong driveway.

Nepal's new prime minister chooses auspicious time to take oath of office

KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — When Nepal's youngest prime minister takes the oath Friday after alandslide victory in the recent election, it won't just be a historic political moment, it will also be a numerological one.

Balendra Shahwill be sworn in at 12:34 p.m., on a day when the Himalayan nation is celebrating Ram Navami, to mark the birth of the popular Hindu God Rama.

Hindu priests say 12:34 p.m. is the most auspicious time on Friday, according to astrological calculations. It also fits the "1-2-3-4" numerological pattern. Shah is later scheduled to enter his new office at 14:15 p.m. which also fits a "14-15" pattern. Hindu priests consider such numerical patterns as auspicious as well.

Religion and astrology play a big role in Nepal, which is more than 80% Hindu and where people begin new work, get married and hold religious rituals according to auspicious times.

Shah was born in the capital Kathmandu but his family comes from the Hindu-dominated Terai region of Nepal, near the border with India.

He will take the oath of office as prime minister of Nepal before President Ramchandra Paudel at an elaborate ceremony with Hindu rituals, including "shankhnaad" or blowing of conches, and religious chanting by Hindu priests and Buddhist lamas.

Shah plans to take the oath along with hisnewly chosen Cabinetin the presence of officials and diplomats.

Balendra Shah, a structural engineer who rose to fame as a rap artist before becoming Kathmandu's mayor, leads the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which won about two-thirds of the 275 seats in the bicameral Parliament's powerful lower House of Representatives.

Shah, the 35-year-old political outsider widely known as Balen, will lead a government tasked with navigatingdeep public frustrationwith Nepal's established parties, who were widely blamed by voters for corruption and chronic political instability.

Shah emerged as a prominent voice during thebloody youth-led uprising in Septemberthat toppled the government in the nation of 30 million people, a wave of unrest that left dozens dead.

Although he didn't directly participate in the protests, Shah publicly expressed support for the largely Generation Z demonstrators who led the movement.

Satellite observations offer insight into a tsunami's early stages

March 27 (Reuters) - Observations made by a satellite operated by the U.S. and French space agencies shortly after a strong earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula last year are giving scientists a better understanding of how tsunamis originate and propagate.

Reuters

The researchers said ‌the findings may help improve understanding of future tsunamis and earthquakes at subduction zones, particularly near the ocean trench where two tectonic ‌plates meet and one slides beneath the other. The strongest tsunamis often are generated by such quakes.

The magnitude 8.8 quake struck on July 29, 2025, triggering a tsunami that spread across the Pacific Ocean. A tsunami - a series of extremely long and powerful ocean waves - is caused by large movements of the seafloor that push water up or down, often during earthquakes or landslides that occur under water.

The NASA-CNES Surface Water and Ocean Topography, or SWOT, satellite made its observations within 70 minutes of the start of the earthquake. It observed not only the leading wave of the tsunami but also a distinct pattern of smaller waves trailing behind it. Such ‌wave patterns had long been predicted in computer models and theoretical studies, but had been difficult to confirm with real-world observations, the researchers said.

"I believe SWOT represents a new lens for observing and studying tsunamis and their generation," said Ignacio Sepúlveda, a professor of coastal engineering at San Diego State University and lead author of the study published this week in the journal Science.

"It is also likely to improve our understanding of the physical mechanisms that generate tsunamis, including earthquakes," Sepúlveda added.

Traditional deep-ocean pressure sensors and other satellites have limitations in coverage and measurement, making it difficult to capture the full structure of the waves, especially near the trench, the researchers said. SWOT scans a wide swath of the ocean, producing two-dimensional maps of sea surface height. This allows scientists to see ‌the shape, direction and spacing of tsunami waves in much greater detail.

Tsunamis are among the strongest and most destructive natural forces, with powerful waves radiating from a point of origin outward in all directions. These waves can cause damaging and deadly coastal flooding.

The tsunami in this study did not cause significant loss of life, but others have caused huge death tolls such as the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed some 230,000 people.

The July 2025 tsunami originated within about 10 kilometres (six miles) of the trench, the place in the seafloor where two tectonic plates intersect, the researchers found. This location could ‌not previously be determined using traditional land-based instruments or sparse sensors on the seafloor alone.

Earth's surface is made up of immense plates that move very gradually in a geological process called plate tectonics.

The researchers found that when earthquake-caused movement extends close to the trench, it can generate shorter waves that travel more slowly and spread out over time, forming a ‌trailing pattern behind the main tsunami front. This behaviour means that different parts of the wave move at different speeds, with longer waves moving more quickly and leading while shorter ones lag behind.

The study also showed that the strength of the trailing waves increases when earthquake movement extends closer to the trench, suggesting these waves are linked to where and how the tsunami was generated near the trench.

"This opens a new window ‌to understand in a better way what happens with earthquakes and tsunamis near the trench," Sepúlveda said, referring to SWOT observations. "In the future, this knowledge will allow us to improve models we use to evaluate tsunami hazards in coastal communities and make them more resilient."

Indiana-Cignetti Contract Football

Newcomer Nick Marsh apparently found that out in humbling fashion before his first practice with the team.

During Cignetti's news conference to preview the start of spring ball, the no-nonsense coach revealed during a discussion about the transfer wide receiver from Michigan State that he chewed out Marsh prior to practice for an equipment faux pas for the old-school program.

Gold shoes.

After praising the production Marsh gave the Spartans over his first two seasons in the Big Ten, with 100 receptions for 1,311 yards and nine touchdowns in 23 games, Cignetti made a point to mention he put Marsh in his place for his choice of cleat color.

"I don't know if that happened to him very often at Michigan State," Cignetti said. "That was a wakeup call."

Perhaps Cignetti was simply trying to use Marsh to send a message to the entire team with a reminder that glamour — or complacency — will get the Hoosiers nowhere in 2026 after winning all 16 of their games in the 2025 season. Whatever his motivation, the 64-year-old Cignetti — who is 27-2 in two seasons at Indiana — quickly softened his tone to seemingly steer the spotlight away from Marsh's first-day mistake.

"He's worked really hard, done a great job for us," Cignetti said.
