The biggest storyline on Friday atThe Mastersbesides the potential duel between Rory McIlroy andScottie Scheffleris the looming cut line and the golfers on the wrong side of it once the second round concludes.

Some can rest easier than most to start the second round.McIlroyput a statement round together and is at the top of theleaderboard, along with Sam Burns, to begin Friday's round.

But only the top 50 golfers and ties after second-round action on Friday, April 10, qualify to play in the final two rounds of the Masters. That means pre-tournament favorites such asBryson DeChambeauandJon Rahmwill need to put together a strong score just to make it to the weekend, let alone work their way into contention.

They lead a list of former major winners who struggled with Thursday's dry and fast conditions on the course and could miss the cut with another poor showing over the next 18 holes. The weather is expected to reach 77 degrees during the second round.

Here are updates about the projected cut line heading into second round action at the 2026 Masters:

Taste Of Summer For Millions As Record Heat Builds In East, Including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington

Record heat is forecast for the mid-Atlantic and Southeast in the week ahead, with summerlike temperatures soaring into the 80s and even 90s in places like Washington and Atlanta by mid-week.

The Weather Channel

This surge of summerlike heat will build day by day, putting dozens of daily record highs in jeopardy.

So keep those warm-weather clothes out for a while as highs will run as much as 20 to 30 degrees above average for mid-April through at least late-week.

When The Heat Arrives Where You Are

Although not record territory, much warmer than average temperatures will impact the Plains and Midwest through the weekend.

Highs will be in the 80s as far north as Minnesota and South Dakota. So just because we aren’t shattering records across the country’s mid-section, doesn’t mean you won’t be warm.

This warm air mass will continue eastward during the early part of the week ahead, peaking by mid-week across much of the East.

(MAPS:10-Day Forecast US Highs/Lows)

We could see the first 90 degree days of 2026 in many locations, including Atlanta, Raleigh, Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Much of the Southeast will climb into the 80s over the weekend and stay there for roughly a week, as temperatures feel more like a summer sizzle than early spring.

Dozens of records could fall across the Southeast multiple days in a row, from Tuesday until at least Thursday.

This includes places like Chattanooga, Nashville, Atlanta, Augusta and Charlotte.

The Northeast Will Sizzle Too

The heat arrives in the Northeast by Monday and continues to build each day.

New York City goes from highs in the mid-50s on Sunday, to highs in the mid-70s on Monday, then well into the 80s by Tuesday.

On Wednesday, we could see record highs in places like Richmond, Virginia, Washington D.C. and Trenton, New Jersey. Many locations across the Ohio Valley could also be in record territory. Columbus, Ohio, could set records on Wednesday, as temperatures top out in the mid 80s.

Atlanta is exepcted to climb to the 90s by Friday and is expected to break daily high records Wednesday through Friday. The city has only seen 4 days at or above 90 degrees in the month of April in history. It would be the first since 1986 and the earliest 90 degree day on record.

Just like in typical spring fashion, there is an end in sight. Models suggest another pattern change by next weekend, bringing relief from the extreme heat.

Oil tankers steer clear of Hormuz ahead of US blockade

By Florence Tan

SINGAPORE, April 13 (Reuters) - Oil tankers are steering clear of the Strait of Hormuz ahead of a U.S. blockade later on Monday following failed peace talks between the ‌U.S. and Iran over the weekend, shipping data showed.

President Donald Trump https://www.reuters.com/world/us/donald-trump/ said on Sunday the ‌U.S. Navy would start blockading nL1N40U07M the Strait of Hormuz, raising the stakes after marathon talks with Iran failed to reach a deal to end the war, jeopardising a fragile two-week ceasefire.

U.S. Central Command said U.S. forces would begin implementing the blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports at 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT) on Monday.

It would be "enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ‌ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman," it said in a statement on X.

U.S. forces would not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports, and additional information would be provided to commercial mariners through a formal notice prior to the start of the blockade, it said.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards nS8N40E024 said on Sunday that any military vessels attempting to approach the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of the ceasefire and be dealt with harshly and decisively.

Pakistan-flagged tankers Shalamar ‌and Khairpur entered the Gulf on Sunday, data from LSEG and Kpler showed.

The Aframax tanker Shalamar is heading to the United Arab Emirates on Monday to load Das crude while the Panamax-sized Khairpur is heading to Kuwait to load refined products, the data showed.

Pakistan National Shipping, which manages Shalamar, did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of office hours.

Liberia-flagged very large crude carrier (VLCC) Mombasa B, which also transited the ‌strait earlier on Sunday, is ballasting in the Gulf, the data showed.

Malta-flagged VLCC Agios Fanourios I, which tried to pass through the strait on Sunday to enter the Gulf to load Iraqi Basra crude for Vietnam, has since turned back and is ‌now anchored near the Gulf of Oman, the data showed. The tanker plans to head to Iraq.

Eastern Mediterranean Maritime, which manages the Agios Fanourios I, and CMB.TECH NV, the manager for the Mombasa B, did not respond to requests for comment outside office hours.

Despite the stalemate, three supertankers nL1N40U04R fully laden ‌with oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, shipping data showed. They appeared to be the first vessels to exit the Gulf since the ceasefire deal was struck last week.

APTOPIX Pakistan Polio

The shooting occurred in Hangu, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, shortly after Pakistan launched its second nationwide anti-polio campaign of the year, according to local police official Mahmood Alam.

No group immediately claimed responsibility, but suspicion is likely to fall on the Pakistani Taliban and local militant groups, which often carry out similar attacks in the region and elsewhere.Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistanremain the only countries where polio has not been eradicated, according to the World Health Organization.

First lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari urged families to ensure their children are vaccinated during the weeklong drive, which aims to reach more than 45 million children under 5 across all provinces and regions. She said the campaign will be conducted in coordination with Afghanistan, reflecting a shared commitment to interrupt cross-border transmission and close remaining gaps.

Aseefa is the daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a 2007 gun and bomb attack by militants, and who had personally overseen initiatives aimed at eliminating polio during her tenure. In a statement, she said “Pakistan stands at a crucial moment in the fight against polio.” She said while the country is closer than ever to eradication, “the final stretch remains the most challenging.”

Highlighting recent gains, she said31 polio cases were reported nationwide in 2025, while only one case has so far been recorded so far this year, but warned against complacency.

While Pakistan primarily uses door-to-door vaccination teams to reach children at their homes, Afghanistan generally relies on fixed vaccination sites and health facilities, where parents are asked to bring their children for immunization.

In Kabul, Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, said the first national polio vaccination campaign of the year has begun in Afghanistan in coordination with international partners, aiming to vaccinate around 12.6 million children under the age of 5 across the country. He said the campaign has been delayed in some areas due to cold weather.

Zaman urged parents, religious scholars and community leaders to ensure maximum participation in the campaign, stressing that polio can only be prevented through vaccination.

Pakistan’s polio eradication program has been running anti-polio campaigns for years, though health workers and the police assigned to protect them are often targeted by militants who falsely claim the vaccination campaigns are a Western conspiracy to sterilize children.

Authorities havedeployed thousands of police officers to protect workersfollowing intelligence warnings of possible attacks. More than 200 polio workers and the police assigned to guard them have been killed in Pakistan since the 1990s, according to officials.

Afghan reported from Kabul. Riaz Khan and Rasool Dawar contributed to this story from Peshawar, Pakistan.
