Former BBC Radio Orkney star Dave Gray has died, with the national broadcaster paying tribute to the presenter.

In a press release, the BBC wrote: 'Everyone at& BBC& Radio Orkney is grieving the sudden lack of our pal and colleague Dave Grey, who died on Wednesday following a brief illness.

'For three many years Dave was the guts and soul of the BBC in Orkney and we'll miss him terribly.

'Our ideas are together with his family and lots of buddies at this most troublesome of occasions.'

It added: 'We shall be sharing our tribute to Dave on Friday morning's Around Orkney at 7.30am.'

The news was introduced on BBC Radio Orkney's official Fb and X pages, with fellow presenter and& Massive Brother& star Cameron Stout additionally reposting the announcement.

A part of the station for over 30 years, Gray hosted many programmes includingAround Orkney.

Following the announcement, listeners posted their tributes to him in the remark section.

'He was the voice of Orkney and a stunning man. My coronary heart goes out to his family. He shall be an enormous loss to all,' one individual shared.

'So sad… I've woken as much as Dave's voice for many years, after which so loved following his travels in Eire in the van lately. So many adventures ahead and too young to go away…' someone else shared.

The information comes after the shock death of BBC radio star Steve Wright last week.

The& veteran DJ, who introduced& Steve Wright& in the Afternoon and fronted Prime of the Pops, died aged 69, days after pre-recording his ultimate exhibits which are stated to be locked away and& gained't see the sunshine of day.

Some BBC co-workers have blamed his death on 'heartbreak' over the axing of his Radio 2 show, while his brother Lawrence Wright explained it was a 'poor diet'.
