The ocean off the coast of Los Angeles is red. Multimillion-dollar homes are consumed by unstoppable walls of fire pushed by 100 mph winds. Entire neighborhoods are burned to the ground. Smoke, the stuff of nuclear mushroom clouds, has turned blue sky black. 'Heat blooms' are visible from outer space. At least 5 people are dead, 137,000 evacuated, and nearly half a million without power. As we wake to the third day of burning, the two largest blazes remain entirely uncontained.
