World's largest comic company shocks fans by filing for bankruptcy after fallout with Marvel and DC

The world's largest English-language comic company has abruptly filed for bankruptcy. Diamond Comic Distributors announced on Tuesday that after forty years in business the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Founded in 1982 by CEO Stephen Geppi, Diamond gained a stronghold on the industry by securing exclusive distribution deals with major publishers like DC, Marvel, and Image. For decades, the company played a pivotal role in the market, but recently suffered a blow when it lost the exclusive rights to Marvel and DC and has accrued $50 million in liabilities and over 1,000 creditors.
