Terrifying shortage of air traffic controllers across the country that could lead to more disasters
A shortage of air traffic controllers across the nation is sparking concerns there could be more aviation tragedies on the horizon. Federal Aviation Administration's recent diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) targets have reportedly left a gaping hole in the department, with a shortage of about 3,800 staff. The industry has faced increased scrutiny in 2025 after a series of aviation tragedies, including the deaths of 67 people when an American Airlines plane collided with a Black Hawk Army helicopter over the Potomac River in Washington DC.
