A Louisiana death row inmate has used his Buddhist beliefs as an excuse for why he shouldn't be executed with nitrogen gas, just hours before it is set to take place. Jessie Hoffman Jr., 46, is scheduled to be put to death Tuesday evening using nitrogen gas for his conviction of the brutal 1996 rape and murder of 28-year-old accounting executive Mary 'Molly' Elliott. It would be the state's first execution in 15 years and the first time Louisiana has ever used the controversial method, which deprives the body of oxygen needed to maintain bodily functions.
