The number of major metro areas in the US that are seeing home prices fall has nearly doubled since January this year. Among the 300 largest housing markets in the country, 60 have been dropping in price on a year-over-year basis, according to one study. In January, 31 were falling. Since March 2024, home prices across the country as a whole have risen by 1.2 percent, according to the Zillow Home Value Index.
