
A remarkable archive documenting Napoleon's final days in exile has come to light after more than 200 years. The never-before-seen cache of material includes a candid witness account describing his death on the remote island of St Helena on May 5, 1821. It confirms that the former French Emperor was bedbound for almost two months before he 'breathed his last sigh'. He was constantly sick and in agony yet remained stoic and made 'no complaint or lamentation'.
