In 2023, she toldThe Cutthat she "didn't have a plan" when it came to starting a family.

"I didn't mull it over too much. I didn't do a lot of research, I just pulled the trigger," she explained. "A lot of people read books about parenting. I didn't do any of that. I was like, 'When the child is here, I'm just going to figure it out.' "

Over the years, Liu has shared glimpses into her life as a mom with Rockwell and has opened up about the joy she's found in the experience.

As she celebrated her son's first birthday in 2016, she told PEOPLE, "I didn't realize how quickly babies progress. Very basic things that you just take for granted. They're just this little lump of flesh, and then all of a sudden, they're turning around, they're observing you and they're smiling and they're interacting. It's a magical experience."

Speaking toTodayin 2022, Liu revealed the surprising inspiration for her son's name.

"I was on location, and Rockwell was the name of a store. At the time, I remember thinking, 'That's a really great name,' and I kept it in the back of my mind," she said.

"I know a lot of people are like, 'Oh, that's a surname.' But I think sometimes surnames are stronger than first names," she added.
