The level of queer excellence to graduate from *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 4? Far too much. But that doesn't mean these ladies didn't have to fight tooth and (sparkly) nail to get there.

Season 4 icons Chad Michaels and Latrice Royale join the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast to recall all the juicy drama and heartwarming sisterhood that went down on one of fans' favorite seasons of the Emmy-winning reality competition program, including a particularly tense exchange between Michaels and Phi Phi O'Hara that never made it to air. And, like all epic battles throughout world history, it began in a room filled with wigs.

"There was one night when they let us stay an extra hour to work on wigs.... She started in on me, and I said something like 'You know what Phi Phi? I was on *The Jay Leno Show*. I appeared on *The Jay Leno Show* as Cher,'" Michaels remembers of an earlier highlight in his pre-*Drag Race* career as a celebrity impersonator. "What have you done?' And she just goes, 'Yeah, you were on *The Jay Leno Show*... as a joke!' and I just, if my head could've exploded, it would've. But the tragedy of the story is that it was not caught on camera. It would've rivaled the Party City scene [between Sharon Needles and O'Hara]."

Royale admits she "missed" the moment because she was dealing with drama of her own: A wayward prop during the infamous boat-decorating challenge where the queens were tasked with making over personal wooden rafts and floating them down the runway.

"My boat didn't fit, remember? They had to rebuild my boat and I had to do my stuff the next day," the self-proclaimed "large and in charge, chunky yet funky" diva says. "They brought all those boats in made the same size, and, bitch, I was like, I can't squeeze up in this, not with my body on, I put on padding! So they had to take the boat apart and rebuild it while everybody was decorating their boat!"

Later, the pair stresses their love for both O'Hara and Willam, who was memorably disqualified from the competition for mysterious reasons.

"Willam is fierce," Michaels says, while Royale feels she has a "love fest" going on with the Emmy-nominated *EastSiders* actor as the queen she's "closest to now from the season."

"Me and Christopher, my husband, always say if there was ever some s— to really go down, there are a few handful of girls that you know will be there. Chad, Willam, Manila... these girls I *know* got your back," Royale explains.

Continues Michaels: "He'll surprise you. He'll just send you something in the mail out of random." The contents of such packages? Well, as Royale reveals: "Dildos! Poppers!"

Two months after complaining about LGBTQ+ characters in children's media, Snoop Dogg is changing his tune.

The Grammy-winner has partnered with advocacy group GLAAD to celebrate Spirit Day, an annual initiative that rallies celebrities, media outlets, studios, brands, corporations, and other influential voices to stand against the bullying and harassment of LGBTQ+ youth and families. And what better way for Snoop to show support than via the power of song.

In honor of Spirit Day, the rapper has joined forces with former *The Voice* contestant Jeremy Beloate for a special Spirit Day conversation about their new song, "Love Is Love." The track is featured in the latest episode of Snoop's animated children's YouTube series, *Doggyland*.

"It's beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is," Snoop says during the half-hour conversation with Beloate, who joined his team during season 26 of *The Voice*. "Being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers — whatever it is, love is the key."

The latest episode of Snoop's animated series sees Beloate voice a puppy named Zippy, who joins the *Doggyland* pups to sing "Love Is Love," a song that celebrates the love shared among families. The cast of characters is led by Snoop himself, who voices mentor character Bow Wizzle.

"Our parents are different / No two are the same / But the one thing that's for certain is the love won't change," the pups sing in the new tune, with several same-sex couples appearing on screen. "Families are special / They are so unique / Everybody's got a purpose, more than what you see / We love you, parents / We love you so."

Addressing the song during his chat with Beloate, Snoop said, "It's teaching parenthood. It's teaching situations that kids in the world is going through right now in a beautiful way through song, dance, melody, just trying to get more clarity on how we live and the way we live. And I felt like this music is a beautiful bridge to bringing understanding."

He added, "These are things that kids have questions about so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love."

The latter comment appears to reference the controversial remarks that Snoop made back in August, after watching Pixar's *Lightyear* with his grandson. The "Gin and Juice" rapper sparked outrage for saying that he felt "scared to go to the movies" after his grandson started asking him questions about the lesbian couple that appears briefly in the 2022 film.

"Oh s---, I didn't come in for this s---. I just came to watch the goddamn movie," Snoop recalled during an interview with the *It's Giving *podcast. "These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They're going to ask questions. I don't have the answer."

Snoop did not directly address the controversy while announcing his GLAAD partnership, but did stress the importance of spreading love.

"At the end of the day, it's all about love — that's what we're teachin' the kids with 'Love Is Love,'" he said in a statement. "Partnering with GLAAD for Spirit Day just felt right, because spreading love and respect for everybody is what real gangstas do. We're showin' the next generation that kindness is cool, inclusion is powerful, and love always wins."**

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits fell last week, economists estimated on Thursday, though new job opportunities for those who are laid off remained scarce amid a reluctance by businesses to boost hiring.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped to a seasonally adjusted 219,000 for the week ended October 25 from 232,000 in the prior week, JPMorgan calculated. Estimates from Goldman Sachs and Nationwide were within that ballpark.

Claims data was unavailable for Arizona, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., Economists made assumptions for the three, in line with what the Labor Department would normally do when data is not available.

Despite the U.S. government being shut for almost a month, states continue to collect the claims data, submitting it to the Labor Department. Economists are accessing the data and using seasonal adjustment factors the government published earlier this year to make the weekly claims estimates.

Claims at current estimated levels suggested the labor market remained stable and would argue against additional interest cuts from the Federal Reserve.

"This will bolster the view of those at the Fed who think another rate cut isn't necessary in December," said Oren Klachkin, financial market economist at Nationwide. "Low claims demonstrate continued economic resilience."

The U.S. central bank on Wednesday cut its benchmark overnight interest rate by another 25 basis points to the 3.75%-4.00% range. Fed Chair Jerome Powell told reporters "a further reduction in the policy rate at the December meeting is not a foregone conclusion, far from it."

Still, there has been a pick-up in layoffs, with economists blaming low demand for labor because of economic uncertainty, tariffs on imports and companies embracing artificial intelligence. A sharp reduction in labor supply because of raids on undocumented immigrants is also weighing on the labor market.

Amazon this week said it would cut up to 14,000 jobs from its global corporate workforce. Layoffs are also happening in the automobile sector. American companies have announced more than 25,000 job cuts this month, according to a Reuters tally.

"The labor market still appears far away from a material shift toward a contraction in employment that might signal an imminent recession, despite some recent headlines concerning layoffs at certain large firms," said Michael Hanson, an economist at JPMorgan.

"The latter points to continued weak labor demand that has pushed up the average duration of unemployment and pushed down the break-even level of payroll growth."

While regular claims remain low by historical standards, applications for benefits by federal employees have surged this month, likely related to the more than 150,000 workers who dropped off payrolls at the end of September after accepting buyouts. Some furloughed federal employees could also be seeking benefits, though they would have to reimburse the program when they receive their back pay.

Haver Analytics estimated federal claims, which are reported under a different program, jumped to 10,062 during the week ending October 18 from 7,287 in the prior week. These claims were about 572 in early September.

The number of people receiving unemployment benefits after an initial week of aid, a proxy for hiring, increased to a seasonally adjusted 1.957 million during the week ending October 18, a two-and-a-half-month high, from 1.945 million, JPMorgan estimated. That was broadly in line with the calculations from Goldman Sachs and Nationwide.

The so-called continued claims reading aligned with the Conference Board survey, which showed consumers' perceptions of the labor market remained downbeat in October. The unemployment rate was near a four-year high of 4.3% in August.

Superstar entertainer Alyssa Edwards is generally accepted as an iconic gift sent down from Gay Heaven, but getting to a place of mutual adoration might've taken her *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 5 sisters on a trip to hell and back.

Franchise legends Edwards and crowned queen Jinkx Monsoon stopped by the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* podcast to click-clack down memory lane for an adoring recap of their time on the Emmy-winning reality competition series, with the latter recalling a hilarious moment between Edwards and fellow contestant Alaska that wasn't captured on camera.

"I think Detox, Coco, and Roxxxy were all filming their confessionals, so we had this rare moment where we were unsupervised," Monsoon tells *BINGE* hosts Joey Nolfi and Jillian Sederholm. "We were sitting eating dinner together, and it was almost midnight. Alyssa asks Alaska, 'What did you first think of me the first time you met me? Now we're good friends, but, like, what was your first thought?' And Alaska looked her dead in the eyes and said, 'I thought you were the devil.'"

The pair erupts in laughter while remembering the exchange, which Edwards clearly found amusing: "I looked at that lady and said, 'Now, girl, I go to church and I pray, and *that's* what you looked at me and thought?'" Edwards, a seasoned pageant diva and choreographer, continues with a laugh. "And she did tell me: 'You girls that are very seasoned in this pageantry world, it's intimidating!'"

Elsewhere in the episode, Edwards and Monsoon discuss their iconic *Snatch Game* performances (Monsoon's as Little Edie for the better, Edwards' as Katy Perry for the... well... let's just say she admits to EW she *thought* she was going to win the challenge and, uh, didn't), Edwards' rise through the ranks of superstardom, Monsoon's *very real* crush on eventual Miss Congeniality winner Ivy Winters, Edwards' notecard fumble that sank her comedy roast performance, and what became of Edwards' dress that was labeled as the ugliest in *Drag Race* history by then-judge Santino Rice.

Listen to Edwards and Monsoon spill all the season 5 tea in the latest episode of *EW's BINGE* above. New episodes are available every Thursday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you find your favorite podcasts.

Key Points -

Fiserv's third quarter results and financial reset left analysts and investors confounded.

Management attributed the poor results to internal mistakes and overly ambitious targets.

Bloomberg also reported that customers have been upset by excessive fees at Fiserv's point-of-sale payment processing business Clover.

10 stocks we like better than Fidelity National Information Services ›

Since the close of trading last week, shares of the core processing and payments company Fiserv (NYSE: FIS) had fallen an unimaginable 48% at the close of trading on Thursday. The company significantly missed Wall Street estimates for the third quarter of the year, lowered guidance, and essentially announced a strategic reset.

A shocking miss

Fiserv reported adjusted earnings per share of $2.04, missing estimates by over $0.60. Revenue of $4.92 billion also missed by $430 million. Even worse, management lowered its full-year adjusted earnings guidance by 16.4%, attributing the shocking results to soft revenues from the company's business in Argentina, which is experiencing a financial crisis, among other issues.

Bloomberg also reported that many customers have been complaining about excessive fees from Fiserv's flagship point-of-sale payments business Clover. Fiserv's core processing business, which provides banks with key technology that powers their daily operations, also fell about 3% from the prior.

Management seems to have gotten too ambitious in their financial targets. Fiserv's CEO Mike Lyons said on the company's Q3 earnings call that "our challenges are largely driven by our own doing." The company also announced changes to its senior management structure and a new strategy that will focus on long-term client satisfaction. Fiserv plans to announce new mid- and long-term financial targets at its upcoming investor day in November.

Put this one on your watch list

I was certainly shocked to see this severe of a downward move. Fiserv went public in the 1980s and has been a phenomenal stock to own ever since. It's one of the three main players providing core processing technology that is entrenched in long-term banking contracts.

However, many of the country's banks are still using legacy core processing tech that is not nimble enough for today's world, so perhaps this finally caught up with the company, along with issues at Clover, which seem to stem from management's focus on near-term results.

That said, I would certainly add this one to your watch list. Fiserv's positioning in the space should still be very strong, so if management can clean up its act, this could prove to be a compelling buying opportunity. Conduct your own due diligence, but investors at the very least can nibble on the stock and then pay close attention to the upcoming investor day.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -President Donald Trump's order for the Defense Department to start testing nuclear weapons could lead to billions of dollars' worth of contracts for a handful of specialized companies that dominate the United States' nuclear weapons infrastructure.

The Trump announcement Wednesday night from South Korea ordered the Department of Defense to "immediately" start testing nuclear weapons, something the United States has not done since 1992.

The U.S. nuclear arsenal consists of land-launched nuclear missiles, nuclear missile-armed submarines and aircraft with nuclear bombs and missiles. It was unclear which portion of the arsenal Trump wanted to test.

An investment in nuclear weapons and testing could benefit Honeywell International, BWX Technologies, Chugach Alaska Corp, Jacobs Solutions, Inc., Mele Associates, General Atomic Technologies Corporation and others due to their specialization in nuclear test site construction, operations, support and related engineering services, according to Govini, a defense software company.

BWXT works with nuclear materials, while Honeywell runs a key testing site, conducts tests and helps track the U.S. nuclear stockpile.

Mele helps manage parts of the nuclear stockpile while helping make sure nuclear material does not fall into the wrong hands.

"Restarting nuclear weapons testing is going to reverberate in a lot of ways, including by sending a shockwave of government funding to companies in test site construction and engineering support," said Tara Murphy Dougherty, CEO of Govini.

Alongside a new testing program, the U.S. is modernizing its ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile program, aimed at replacing the aging Minuteman III missiles.

Northrop Grumman was awarded a sole-source contract in 2020 to develop the Sentinel, with subcontractors including Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Bechtel, Honeywell, Aerojet Rocketdyne, and Textron.

The program, which requires extensive testing while it is being built, represents one of the largest defense modernization efforts in decades.

The plan includes 634 new Sentinel missiles, plus an additional 25 missiles to support development and testing, being procured to replace the aging Minuteman III system deployed in 1970.

Sabrina Carpenter Monologue - SNL

Saturday Night Live/YouTube

*Saturday Night Live*'s season 51 episodes featured Sabrina Carpenter pulling double duty as host and musical guest. She's become a friendly face at 8H in the past 18 months. A quick snapshot:

She was the musical guest during the season 49 season finale. Later, she joined Domingo and his brothers at the 50th anniversary special. Her modern-iconic "I'm on SNL and you're not" was all over the marketing for that. And back in May, she popped up in Quinta Brunson's monologue, singing about being short with Marcello Hernández and Dwyane Wade. **

I am joined tonight by the legend Jeff Richards who actually spent a few moments with Carpenter during the SNL50 festivities back in February.

"It was great talking with Sabrina and Jenna Ortega at the SNL50 after-party, both so grounded and kind. Sabrina has this rare, magnetic charm like a modern Marilyn Monroe with a sense of humor." Recalling her duet of "Homebound Bound" during the special's cold open, he noted: "Her performing with Paul Simon was a highlight of the night, she's the real deal."

People seemed happy with Amy Poehler's return last week — nearly half of you selected A in my poll. Scroll below, let's see if Sabrina continues the trend.

Why Bowen Yang isn't on 'SNL' for Sabrina Carpenter episode

Bowen Yang on 'SNL'

'SNL' fails to pay tribute to past musical guest D'Angelo after singer's death at 51

D'Angelo performs on 'SNL' on Jan. 31, 2015

After a 12-minute delay due to college football, we get underway! It's Domingo. Yes, they are mining that again — this time with next generation cast members as the out of tune friends, an interesting development for an otherwise tired sketch. Songs include Lady Gaga's "Abracadabra" revealing secrets about a wife (Chloe Fineman) and her fling with Marcello Hernandez's Domingo. **

Sabrina returns as one of the good friends to Fineman's Kelsey. She was previously in the vow renewal. The premise this round: They went to Nashville. "This is strike six!" cries the cuckolded husband played by Andrew Dismukes. One note and not funny — though I love a recurring character superseding obvious political material for the cold open!

(Many expected Trump's pardon of George Santos to be an obvious premise for tonight's cold open; alas, Bowen Yang is not in the studio tonight.)

People got freaked out by the cover of Carpenter's latest album. She discusses SNL50 and being a provocative "horndog" pop star. She loves talking to normal people, going out into the audience. Kenan pops up to confront her for impersonating a police officer at her concerts. This was brief — she is charismatic and fun, I am surprised how rushed/one-note this was. Blame the USC game?**

Jeff Richards recently had TikTok star Faith Elizabeth on his podcast portraying Carpenter (among others). Check it out. It's brilliant.

"Boys Podcast"

Teen boys giggle about Halloween candy and vegetables, using a lot of silly, indecipherable Gen Z slang. I think Carpenter and Fineman are hilarious here. Fire episode!**

Their first guest is Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson). They ask him about his favorite Airhead, and he starts ranting about Ukraine and Santos. ("He's weird, he's a liar.") He rants for a while before answering blue. He turns the conversation back to himself and whether he's getting into heaven.

This is a well-executed satire at podcasts, youth culture, and Trump's odd role in both, especially online. I like it!

"Plans" Movie Trailer

From the studio that brought you *Insidious* — this is about people who get anxiety over making plans. In this horror movie spoof, a couple (Ben Marshall, Carpenter) realize they made plans with her cousin and her husband months ago. A lot of fun tidbits here, watch this!

"Shop TV: Pillow"

Rhett is back! Folks will remember this one from a few times before. Now Mikey Day's Rhett is joined by Ashley Padilla's co-host Bev, a sign that Padilla is again seen as a star this season. **

Carpenter's suggestive travel neck pillow is the hook here — as a reminder, these ShopTV sketches are all about the naughty sight gags and double entendres. Meh.

"Girlboss Seminar"

It's the "Girl Boss Female Confidence Seminar," a corporate event featuring Queen Lisha (Carpenter), who preaches platitudes about jealousy being a disease and FOMO right before being thrown through a wall. Audience member Sarah Sherman is rightfully concerned (or is she just being a hater). Lisha speaks nonsense — or is that because she is concussed? Or just internalized misogyny?**

Nice performance work and energy from Carpenter here, a reminder she is not your standard pop star singer trying out her comedy chops. She started out on the Disney Channel!**

"Grind" Song

Yang appeared in the episode after all. He anchors this pretape about "middle-school lovin'" — that's right, the awkward coming-of-age moments being captured at organized dances and the grinding that occurs. I loved this — sounds great, like a vintage *SNL* song parody à la "Twin Bed." And outside Yang and Carpenter's vocals, the performances from new cast members like Jeremy Culhane are noteworthy. (Culhane is showing a lot of promise at this point in the season.) **

"Manchild" Song

A lot to love about this country-influenced pop performance — from the saxophone solo to Carpenter's playful "Live From New York" outfit. **

"Manchild" is the lead single on Carpenter's latest album *Man's Best Friend.* Carpenter co-wrote and co-produced the. song with Jack Antonoff with Amy Allen providing additional songwriting. **

"Weekend Update"

Topics include: the sudden release of George Santos, the leaked Young Republican group chat, John Bolton's indictment and Che's Tinder matches. Jost makes an Austin Powers joke!

It is scary movie season, which "ushers" back another Hernandez recurring character: the Movie Guy. He has not seen a lot of the scary movies being released and replies "Except me, I did not see" whatever he's describing. He also makes a Mike Myers joke, the second this Update. (And one random comment: lots of vagina jokes this episode! Already four, by my count.)

New York has the most residents moving out. *SNL* newcomer Tommy Brennan is also new to New York — he's from the Midwest, one of eight kids. He jokes about his upbringing and looks — his childhood has helped him adjust to his time in NYC. He jumped his first turnstile today, to mild applause. Brennan is doing his best to work his stand-up material here, getting into his Catholic guilt. I'll call it: Maybe it's the hair, but some Jay Mohr vibes from Tommy.**

"Appliance Store"

Two customers are looking to buy a washer-dryer set – Dismukes wants one with a jingle. The employee (Kenan Thompson) reveals a special unit, Veronika Slowikowska and Sabrina Carpenter portraying singing machines, going over various genres and scenarios people use for washing clothes. "The songs are dynamite, and I'm attracted to the machines!" admitted Dismukes, killer line. **

Slowikowska and Carpenter are great — very nice showcase for Slowikowska, I like the show giving the new cast members their own spotlight this early. **

Honestly? I preferred the passive aggressive couple played by Dismukes and Padilla. **

"Surprise"

Coworkers want to surprise Laura (Padilla) for her birthday. They jump out and shock her – causing her to get scared and fart. She loses full control, and Padilla has a nice moment. She's developing quite the repertoire playing aggrieved, humiliated women this season. This is almost Tim Robinson ITYSL territory.

The Party City tag is a cute payoff too.

Song #2 - "Nobody's Son"

"He sure f---ed me up," Carpenter appears to sing a few times during this. Granted she's multitasking — this performance is set in a karate dojo, and she's breaking wooden boards as she sings! **

"Social experiment"

Another Please Don't Destroy expat Martin Herlihy hosts a social experiment where moviegoers like Jane Wickline are tested, sitting in a theater with a group of Frankensteins. Kam Patterson is funny here as the one unaffected participant, who curiously studied Gothic Literature!**

If Ashley Padilla went for Tim Robinson territory, Herlihy is approaching Nathan Fielder. I believe this short film was previously planned for earlier in the season but got cut. (Actually Martin reminds me of Kyle Mooney in this….) Very good stuff though, I think Tom Schiller would approve. **

Another Shrek reference tonight!**

Final thoughts

- Despite the late start, the new cast members gelled nicely with Carpenter tonight! I am encouraged. Probably my favorite of the season so far – feels like a new direction in a lot of ways. **

- What did you think? Vote! **

- Thank you Jeff Richards! Check out his podcast!**
