Way-too-early MLB rankings for 2026 World Series title

Congratulations are in order to the Los Angeles Dodgers for winning the World Series. Now, what are you going to do for an encore?

There were plenty of surprises this past season, so success in 2025 doesn't necessarily translate into being a playoff contender in 2026. But it's as good a place as any to start.

While acknowledging that free agent signings, trades and injuries will certainly shift the relative strengths of the clubs between now and the start of the regular season, we're diving right in with a way-too-early look at which teams should be poised to compete in 2026 and which ones figure to scuffle.

1 / 42025 World Series: All the best moments from Dodgers vs. Blue Jays Game 6Former Toronto Blue Jays star Devon White throws out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 6.Chance for three-peat?

Los Angeles Dodgers: You see stars everywhere you look in L.A. Sure, they flex their financial muscle to attract the brightest and the best, but they're also very good at finding the right complementary pieces. As long as Shohei Ohtani is around, the Dodgers will be tough to beat. (And he's under contract through 2033.)

Top contenders

Toronto Blue Jays: Their relentless offense paved the way to the franchise's first World Series appearance since 1993. Most of those hitters will be back, but will an AL pennant be enough to keep free agent SS Bo Bichette in the fold? The pitching staff sure looks a lot better with postseason hero Trey Yesavage in the rotation.

Seattle Mariners: The M's made it to the ALCS with the help of free agents Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez, but the key cogs on the roster – C Cal Raleigh, CF Julio Rodriguez and starters Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby and Luis Castillo – will all be back. That's a solid foundation, and along with a fantastic bullpen, that elusive World Series appearance definitely appears within reach.

New York Yankees: Two-time (perhaps three-time?) MVP Aaron Judge anchors an offense that will look to fill Cody Bellinger's spot in free agency. Starting rotation should be among MLB's best, especially if Gerrit Cole can return from Tommy John surgery in the second half.

Atlanta Braves: The Braves hardly ever put their optimal squad on the field at the same time all season. OF Ronald Acuña and SP Spencer Strider were sidelined early with injuries, OF Jurickson Profar sat out the middle part with a suspension. SP Spencer Schwellenbach and 3B Austin Riley missed time in the second half. Just a little better luck and the Braves are back with a vengeance.

Milwaukee Brewers: They posted a major league-high 97 wins and have almost everyone coming back. The midseason pickup of 1B Andrew Vaughn looks like a (typical) stroke of genius. A full season from rookie flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski will make the Brew Crew even more dangerous.

Solid foundation

Boston Red Sox: With ace Garrett Crochet and top prospects OF Roman Anthony, IF Marcelo Mayer and 2B Kristian Campbell, the future looks bright in Boston. The biggest unknown is what happens with 3B Alex Bregman, who can opt out of the final year of his contract.

Philadelphia Phillies: Was 2025 the final hurrah for this version of the Phils? DH Kyle Schwarber, C J.T. Realmuto and SP Ranger Suarez are free agents. Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Aaron Nola are entering their age-33 seasons. Ace Zack Wheeler had shoulder surgery in September and may not be ready for opening day.

Chicago Cubs: The core is strong, the defense is likely the best in the majors, but does the front office go the extra mile to get them over the hump? OF Kyle Tucker is a free agent and losing his bat would be a major blow to the offense. All-Star Matthew Boyd and Rookie of the Year candidate Cade Horton front a rotation that could have lefty Justin Steele back by midseason.

New York Mets: A team this talented (and this expensive) shouldn't be hovering around the .500 mark. Juan Soto is still only 27, but the big question this offseason is what happens with slugging 1B Pete Alonso. If they don't re-sign him, how do they replace his bat in the offense? Rookie right-hander Nolan McLean could be their 2026 ace.

Detroit Tigers: They cashed in some chips to bolster the postseason roster, but there are several impact prospects on the verge of the majors who could help keep the Tigers competitive for years to come. Plus, any team with Tarik Skubal at the top of the rotation must be taken seriously.

San Diego Padres: The Padres have an excellent nucleus in OFs Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill and 3B Manny Machado, but their depth is a bit suspect after several years of making short-term upgrades for the stretch run. The most intriguing offseason decision for the front office is whether fireballing trade deadline acquisition Mason Miller will be a starter or a reliever.

Baltimore Orioles: A new manager and (hopefully) better health should make for a bounce-back season in Charm City. Even better if ownership decides to loosen the purse strings for an impact free agent or two. Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish front a pitching staff that should be the focal point of offseason upgrades.

Cleveland Guardians: Jose Ramirez is a rock of consistency in all facets of the game. Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee are part of a pitching pipeline that seemingly never ends. We saw a glimpse of the future in this year's playoffs when young OFs George Valera and Chase DeLauter got their feet wet.

We have questions

Cincinnati Reds: A playoff team for only the second time in a dozen years, the Reds are built around ace Hunter Greene and SS Elly De La Cruz. Are they trending upward? The starting rotation could be special with youngsters Andrew Abbott and Chase Burns, but they'll need more run support from what was a below-average offense in 2025.

Houston Astros: We saw just how important a full season from OF/DH Yordan Alvarez is to the Astros' success when they failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Father Time is an obstacle for over-30 vets Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Christian Walker and Josh Hader. While Hunter Brown is a legit ace, losing Framber Valdez to free agency will create a huge hole in the starting rotation.

Texas Rangers: Only a handful of players remain from the World Series championship team from two years ago. And they'll have a new manager with Skip Schumaker taking over for Bruce Bochy. Led by veterans Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Adolis Garcia and Jacob deGrom, the Rangers are one of the oldest teams in the majors. Fun fact: Texas had MLB's lowest ERA last season (3.47).

Arizona Diamondbacks: Led by OF Corbin Carroll, 2B Ketel Marte and SS Geraldo Perdomo, the D'backs have an offense that can keep them competitive. The pitching staff, however, is filled with question marks. Corbin Burnes was supposed to be the anchor, but he's recovering from Tommy John surgery and may not pitch again until late 2026.

Miami Marlins: The Marlins improved by 17 wins over their 2023 record – and there's a lot to like on this roster, especially with the emergence of OFs Kyle Stowers and Jakob Marsee. The starting pitching could be special if everyone – specifically Eury Perez, Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers – stays healthy.

Kansas City Royals: The top of the order is reason for excitement with MVP candidate Bobby Witt Jr. and lefty power bats Vinnie Pasquantino and Jac Caglianone. Depth is a major concern, as is ace Cole Ragans' ability to bounce back from a torn rotator cuff that limited him to just 13 starts in 2025.

Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays took a step backward this season, but there's optimism surrounding a budding superstar in 3B Junior Caminero (45 HR, 110 RBI). He may not be able to replicate those power numbers – and the offense could struggle overall – when the team moves back to Tropicana Field, but an above-average pitching staff will welcome the change.

San Francisco Giants: GM Buster Posey made a bold move in plucking Tony Vitello from the college ranks to be his new manager. The bold move at midseason to acquire Rafael Devers didn't quite work out, but middle-of-the-order sluggers don't grow on trees. The Giants may have the widest range of outcomes of any major league team in 2026.

Needs improvement

Athletics: The first season in their temporary Sacramento home provided plenty of surprises – among them a seven-win jump from 2024. Emergence of rookies Nick Kurtz and Jacob Wilson makes the offense just good enough to be dangerous. But the pitching ...

St. Louis Cardinals: The Chaim Bloom era begins in earnest as he takes over baseball operations from John Mozeilak. His first order of business will likely be to find a trade partner and deal veteran 3B Nolan Arenado. Second order of business is to find more power for an offense that had fewer homers than any team except the Pirates.

Minnesota Twins: Jettisoning more than half the major league roster at the trade deadline was certainly a choice. Now the Twins have to find a way to reload, most likely without making a big splash in free agency. CF Byron Buxton is the only true star, but his career is peppered with an assortment of injuries. Same with 3B Royce Lewis. At least the pitching staff should be able to keep games close.

Still a ways off

Los Angeles Angels: Mike Trout remains stuck on a perpetual merry-go-round as he enters his 16th MLB season, still without a postseason win. SS Zach Neto and OF Jo Adell are exciting, yet flawed players. But as usual, Trout just needs more help, and the organization never seems to give him any.

Chicago White Sox: After several years of swapping veterans for prospects, it's time to start seeing some of those moves pay off. C Kyle Teel and 2B Chase Meidroth are part of the first wave, along with first-round SS Colson Montgomery.

Washington Nationals: The youth movement continues with the hiring of 33-year-old Blake Butera to take over as manager. OF James Wood has superstar potential, while SS CJ Abrams has shown flashes but has lacked consistency. Pitching is the biggest issue; only the Rockies had a worse ERA in 2025.

Pittsburgh Pirates: Isn't Paul Skenes amazing? If he only had some support from the offense. And from ownership,

Colorado Rockies: They don't have the talent to compete. They don't have a manager. They're coming off a 119-loss season. Do they even have a plan?

- The *Ace Ventura *franchise includes two theatrical feature films, an animated TV series, and a made-for-TV movie released between 1994 and 2009.

- The series centers on a quirky private investigator who specializes in finding missing animals.

- Jim Carrey originated the role of the eccentric pet detective.

Jim Carrey rose to fame on the sketch comedy series *In Living Color*, but it was the 1994 comedy *Ace Ventura: Pet Detective *that made the manic scene-stealer a household name.

The hit comedy spawned a sequel, an animated TV series, a made-for-TV movie, and even a few video games.

With the *Ace Ventura* films now available to stream on Netflix, there's never been a better time to relive the laughs (or experience the chaos for the first time). Here's how to watch every *Ace Ventura *movie and TV show in order.

Directed by Tom Shadyac, who penned the script with Carrey and Jack Bernstein, *Ace Ventura: Pet Detective *stars Carrey as an animal sleuth in search of Snowflake, the kidnapped mascot of the Miami Dolphins.

When it hit theaters on Feb. 4, 1994, *Ace Ventura: Pet Detective *was a critical dud. Many panned the movie, particularly for its childish humor. ** wrote, "The film's humor is pitched at that part of the brain that's 5 years old and still gets off on li'l fuzzy animals, fart jokes, and braying, rubber-faced clowns."

EW recognized Carrey as the movie's saving grace, but said "the star runs out of things to do, and the movie runs out of helium like the B-level matinee it was meant to be all along."

Despite the poor reception, the movie crushed it at the box office, earning more than $100 million worldwide on a $15 million budget. Not only did it spawn a franchise, but it served as the launching pad for Carrey's meteoric rise to stardom.

Written and directed by Steve Oedekerk, a friend of Carrey's,* Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls* sends Ace to Africa to track down an endangered white bat.

Released roughly a year and a half after the original, the sequel was panned just as viciously by critics, though it managed to surpass its predecessor at the box office, raking in more than $200 million worldwide on a $30 million budget.

Still, it's interesting to consider what the sequel might have looked like if Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Jonze had helmed it. He was among those vying for the job, and Carrey's rising profile meant the star had a say in choosing the director. But Carrey passed on Jonze, as he had no experience directing feature films at the time.

In 2017, Carrey admitted he regretted the decision during a chat at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. "I've been wanting to do something with Spike forever," Carrey said (via ScreenCrush). "I was stupid enough to turn him down to direct *Ace [Ventura] 2*, 'cause I had no idea who he was. … And I've been kicking myself ever since."

Roughly a month after *When Nature Calls' *theatrical release, CBS debuted the animated series *Ace Ventura: Pet Detective*. The show ran for two seasons from 1995 to 1997, then moved to Nickelodeon for a third and final season from 1999 to 2000.

Set after the events of the movies, the series expands on the premise but sticks to the formula: Ace takes on cases involving lost or kidnapped animals. Along with his monkey sidekick, Spike, Ace embarks on fantastical missions that include rescuing Santa's reindeer before Christmas and saving a dragon from an evil sorcerer.

Since Carrey did not return to voice Ace, Canadian voice actor Michael Hall stepped in.

The third film in the *Ace Ventura *franchise arrived more than 15 years after the original. *Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective *centers on Ace's son, Ace Ventura Jr. (Josh Flitter), as he tries to live up to his father's formidable legacy.

What starts as an investigation into missing pets at his school intensifies when Ace Jr. must step up to clear his mom's (Ann Cusack) name after she's wrongly accused of stealing a baby panda from the Miami Zoo.

Unlike the earlier films, this standalone sequel doesn't involve Carrey. Critics were unimpressed; EW dismissed it as one of "the most random sequels."

The weaker slates almost always deliver an upset or two and Week 10 delivered in a big way.

Unranked SMU made a late comeback to send an early game to overtime, and then beat No. 10 Miami on a short TD run after Carson Beck threw an interception on the Hurricanes' possession. The loss will likely have ACC and CFP implications for Miami.

No. 20 Texas got things started previously with a crucial SEC win over No. 9 Vanderbilt as Arch Manning picked the Commodores apart before a late Vandy rally made things interesting. In the afternoon window, No. 5 Georgia was the beneficiary of another controversial late call and escaped with a win over Florida.

During the evening games, No. 8 Georgia Tech suffered a surprise loss to NC State and No. 18 Oklahoma overwhelmed No. 14 Tennessee in a solid road win. And in the nightcap, No. 24 Utah bludgeoned No. 17 Cincinnati 45-14 to cap Saturday's action.

Here's how to watch college football in Week 10, and you can follow all the action below (scroll for live updates).

An overtime loss to SMU dashes No. 9 Miami's quest for an ACC championship by dropping the Hurricanes behind six teams with one or fewer conference losses, including the two teams that beat them - the Mustangs and No. 17 Louisville.

Failing to even reach the conference championship game threatens to ruin Miami's at-large College Football Playoff hopes, too, setting up the possibility of a comparison with two- or three-loss Big Ten and SEC contenders with deeper résumés against stronger schedules. It does have a non-conference win against Notre Dame, but that may be enough to save the day against candidates with stronger schedules.

For the second time in three games, the Hurricanes couldn't overcome a rash of turnovers from quarterback Carson Beck. He tossed four interceptions in the loss to Louisville and another pair in Saturday's 26-20 defeat, the second coming at the SMU goal line in the first overtime. The senior's nine interceptions are the most in the ACC.

Miami wide receiver Joshisa Trader catches a pass against SMU defensive back Marcellus Barnes Jr. during the first quarter at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

Near the end of regulation, Miami defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot's unnecessary-roughness penalty on a hit of SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings extended the Mustangs' drive on fourth down and set up the game-tying field goal with 25 seconds remaining.

The thought going into the regular season — one supported by non-conference wins against No. 12 Notre Dame and South Florida — was that Miami was too talented to be undone by the predictable in-game mistakes that had so far defined coach Mario Cristobal's tenure.

These two recent losses prove the opposite: While the Hurricanes may have the most talent in the ACC, they've ceded control of the conference to upstarts such as No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 15 Virginia and Duke.

And the Mustangs, too. SMU dropped games in non-conference play to TCU and Baylor but still has just one league loss, putting the defending ACC regular-season champions in position to book a return trip to Charlotte in early December.

The Hurricanes, Texas and Clemson top Saturday's biggest winners and losers:

WinnersOklahoma

Nearly left for dead after last week's loss to No. 8 Mississippi, the No. 18 Sooners' playoff chances will skyrocket after a 33-27 win at No. 14 Tennessee. This is the second ranked win Oklahoma will have to offer the selection committee on Tuesday, joining one against No. 21 Michigan, and is one of the strongest road victories from any team in the Power Four. The Sooners ran for 192 yards, a season-high in SEC play, and had four sacks and eight tackles for loss in holding the Volunteers to just 1.8 yards per carry. While there's more to prove — and more chances to do so against No. 4 Alabama and No. 20 Missouri — this is a statement win for OU.

Southern California

There was nothing pretty about Saturday night in Lincoln except the final score: USC 21, Nebraska 17. Jayden Maiava completed just 9 of 23 throws for 135 yards and an interception, with the Trojans' ground game helping to deliver the win with 202 yards on 5.3 yards per carry. But the bigger factor was the USC defense, which couldn't quite keep Emmett Johnson under wraps but delivered in a big way in the second half to fend off what would've been a backbreaking third loss. Games against Iowa and No. 6 Oregon will decide the Trojans' postseason destination.

Texas

The No. 19 Longhorns are still very much alive in the playoff race after pulling out a 34-31 win against No. 11 Vanderbilt thanks to a career day from Arch Manning, who completed 25 of 33 attempts for 328 yards and three touchdowns without an interception after spending most of this week in concussion protocol. Leading 34-10 heading into the fourth quarter, Texas survived the Commodores' 21-point surge to secure a key tiebreaker against a fellow at-large playoff contender and remain one of just five SEC teams with fewer than two league losses.

Ohio State

The theory that No. 1 Ohio State would find things a little more difficult against Penn State held true through two quarters, at least, after the Buckeyes committed a crucial giveaway deep in their own territory to help the Nittany Lions cut their deficit to 17-14 at halftime. But it was a rout from there: Ohio State scored touchdowns on three of four drives in the second half, not counting a clock-killing drive on the game's final possession, to win 38-14 and take another step toward a perfect regular season. Julian Sayin deserves to be near the top of the Heisman Trophy list, coach Ryan Day said afterwards, and it's hard to argue. Sayin completed 20 of 23 for 316 yards with four touchdowns, marking the fourth time this year he's completed at least 85.2% of his attempts with three or more scores.

Mississippi State

Mississippi State rallied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and beat Arkansas 38-35 for its first SEC win since beating the Razorbacks just over two years ago. Blake Shapen's 18-yard touchdown with 38 seconds left gave the Bulldogs the lead and erased the pain of weeks of close-but-not-quite SEC losses to Tennessee (41-34), Florida (23-21) and Texas (45-38). A week ago, Mississippi State led the Longhorns by 17 points in the fourth quarter. The win doubles as the first in the SEC for second-year coach Jeff Lebby, who seemed in over his head last season but has done a good job quickly bringing the Bulldogs out of the bottom of the conference and is one win from a bowl game

New Mexico

Count the Lobos' Jason Eck among the most successful first-year coaches in the Bowl Subdivision after New Mexico topped UNLV 40-35 on the road to lock in the program's first bowl bid since 2016. With one more win — Colorado State, Air Force and San Diego State cap the regular season — Eck will become the first UNM coach to post a winning season in his debut since Marv Levy in 1958. (Yes, that Marv Levy.)

LosersGeorgia Tech

Losing 48-36 to North Carolina State opens up the possibility of No. 7 Georgia Tech's nightmare scenario: losing once in ACC play, losing the regular-season finale to No. 6 Georgia and then losing in the ACC championship game to fall short of an at-large playoff appearance. After pulling off a few comebacks — Clemson and Wake Forest, most notably — to mount the program's best start since 1966, the Yellow Jackets drew within a touchdown at 38-30 heading into the fourth quarter but couldn't get stops against an N.C. State offense that racked up 583 yards and averaged 8.7 yards per play. The defensive letdown couldn't even be salvaged by Haynes King, who might've helped his Heisman case despite the loss by throwing for 408 yards with another 103 yards on the ground.

Colorado

After he spent this past week sleeping in the office following a blowout loss to Utah, one wonders if or when Deion Sanders will ever go home again after Colorado trailed 38-7 at halftime and lost 52-17 to Arizona. Across these past two games, the Buffaloes have been outscored 81-7 in the first half. Sanders made a quarterback change just before halftime against the Wildcats, switching out starter Kaidon Salter for backup Ryan Staub and then freshman Julian Lewis, who quickly threw a 59-yard touchdown pass. As should've been expected, Colorado has taken a significant step back this season.

Hugh Freeze

The Hugh Freeze era could end as soon as Sunday after Auburn officially hit rock bottom with a 10-3 loss at home to Kentucky. The Tigers made a quarterback change and still couldn't find the end zone: Ashton Daniels started in place of Jackson Arnold and completed 13 of 28 attempts for just 108 yards and an interception. Arnold entered the game late but couldn't do any better. The offense has been abysmal throughout Freeze's tenure, but that's just one primary culprit for his eventual dismissal. A bigger issue has been his inability to put together a competent roster capable of playing with the best teams in the SEC. Or the worst, either, based on Saturday.

Clemson

Clemson was dropped from the at-large picture by the end of September, eliminated from ACC contention by the end of October and now, one day into November, is in danger of missing a bowl game for the first time since 2004 and posting a losing record in conference play for the first time since 1998. Things have deteriorated with incredible speed — nearly as quickly as the Tigers gave away four second-half leads in a 46-45 loss to Duke. Down by a touchdown and starting 94 yards from the end zone with 5:14 to play, the Blue Devils scored on a 3-yard run with 40 seconds left and then converted the two-point try to land the program's first win in Death Valley since 1980. Now 3-5, Clemson needs to take three of four against Florida State, Louisville, Furman and South Carolina to reach bowl eligibility.

Vanderbilt

The loss to Texas now demands a perfect close to the regular season to book an at-large playoff berth. More specifically, the Commodores need No. 14 Tennessee to avoid another loss leading into the finale to give them the best chance at boosting their postseason résumé. Another fallout from Saturday is the damage done to Diego Pavia's quest for the Heisman, even if the senior went toe-to-toe with Manning by throwing for 365 yards, running for a team-high 43 yards and accounting for four touchdowns.

Michigan State

Up 17-10 after a short touchdown run with just under two minutes to play, Michigan State sent the ensuing kickoff out of bounds to give Minnesota a short field, gave up the game-tying score with 29 seconds left and then lost 23-20 in overtime to drop a sixth consecutive game for the first time since 2016. The decision to replace quarterback Aidan Chiles with backup Allesio Milivojevic was a good one, as the redshirt freshman went for 311 yards and a score; this was just the Spartans' fourth 300-yard passing game in the past four seasons. The loss casts significant doubt on coach Jonathan Smith's chances of getting another year, especially with options such as former Notre Dame and LSU coach Brian Kelly potentially available.

The Dallas Cowboys may be fighting inconsistency on the field. A 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos dropped them to 3-4-1- but the fans did not bother much about that, as one heartwarming moment seemingly stole the show. While the team regroups, a major honor came for the wife of owner Jerry Jones, Eugenia Jones, and the moment came with a surprise twist.

Eugenia Jones received a prestigious honor as she was presented the Angel Award from the Farrah Fawcett Foundation for her long-time commitment to the Hope Lodge program of the American Cancer Society, and she has supported it for decades across Arkansas and Texas.

Her daughter Charlotte Jones announced in an emotional message, which she posted on Instagram: "Special night honoring MOM with the Angel Award from the @farrahfawcettfn for all of her love and dedication to Hope Lodge for decades from Arkansas to Texas! And what a special surprise to receive the award from Dak and Sarah Jane! Congratulations mom!!! We love you !"

The Cowboys quarterback,Dak Prescott, and his fiancée, Sarah Jane, took to the stage to present her the award. Jones' wife has long been respected for her grace and behind-the-scenes leadership within the Cowboys organization.

This is yet another addition to a long list of recognitions for Eugenia, who has given to her community and individuals in need through public and charitable work for decades. Before this, she had a career in pageantry. In 1960, she won Miss Arkansas USA, and she was also crowned as Arkansas Poultry Princess.

The Farrah Fawcett Foundation hosted the Angel Awards, the foundation recognizes those individuals who represent the late icon's commitment to battling cancer.

Prescott made the moment all the more special, as he has some personal connection with this. His mother, back in 2013, died after battling cancer for a year. Earlier this season, Prescott even paid tribute to his mother. He wore the wrist tape throughout the game, "Happy Birthday Mom!"

He was accompanied by his wife, Sarah Jane. It has been a milestone-filled year for the couple: in May 2025, they welcomed their second child. An NFL season and Sarah Jane's professional role with Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits have not stopped this pair from continuing to be deeply committed to family and community.

As the Cowboys were celebrating the honor of Eugenia Jones, Dak Prescott made some comments about Jerry Jones with which many Cowboys fans took sides.

"I don't know the full context of it, I do know a piece of it. But being a fan and you just hear that or read that, yeah, of course. … That can definitely be frustrating," Prescott said via The Athletic's Jon Machota.

"Maybe in those five minutes is what he was alluding to, and having a chance at a $100 billion opportunity, I think you might take five minutes as well to answer a call." Prescott added that ownership decisions are out of the hands of the players, and there's nothing they can do, so they must keep their focus on football.

Amid all this, the honor bestowed upon Jones' wife collected love from the fans.

"Timeless beauty," says Cowboys fans

The emotional moment quickly trended on social media. As one comment said: "What a beautiful event!" just so simple, yet powerful, to explain in words the elegance and meaning behind this celebration. Another fan added, "Special lady! Love her so much. Thank you for including us," alluding to her long-standing connection with the Cowboys community.

Other fans pointed out her grace and dignity: "The timeless beauty and elegance of Gene. Well deserved." She represents poise and quiet influence, a respected figure within an organization that has an enormous public spotlight. A fan reflected on her work in cancer support programs and community causes throughout Texas and Arkansas, saying, "She is such a blessing in so many ways. Congratulations."

Fans continued to praise Eugenia for her constant support in helping the community as much as she could.

Just as the Los Angeles Dodgers finished turning a game-ending double play to win the World Series, folks were already talking about a three-peat.

The Dodgers didn't get a lot of time to celebrate before being installed as favorites to win the 2026 World Series after outlasting the Toronto Blue Jays in a highly entering seven-game World Series. Los Angeles won the finale, 5-4 in 11 innings on Saturday night.

Los Angeles defeated the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series and oddsmakers favor a rematch in the 2026 Fall Classic.

FanDuel and BetMGM each have the Dodgers at +350 to win the 2026 World Series. The Yankees are second at both sportsbooks -- +700 at FanDuel and +750 at BetMGM.

Los Angeles figures to have a solid chance at becoming the first team since the Yankees (1998-2000) to win three straight World Series crowns.

National League MVP candidate Shohei Ohtani is in the prime of his career as a hitter and will get more work as a starting pitcher since he won't be coming off a major arm injury. Players like Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith (game-winning homer in Game 7) will again be main cogs and World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow will join Ohtani in a strong rotation.

The Yankees will again be led by American League MVP Aaron Judge and the lineup figures to include Giancarlo Stanton and Jazz Chisholm. Gerrit Cole is expected to return from a major arm injury in May to join a rotation that includes Max Fried and Carlos Rodon.

FanDuel rates the Philadelphia Phillies (+1000) and New York Mets (+1100) as National League teams who could dethrone the Dodgers. BetMGM has the Phillies at +1100 and the Mets at +1400.

In the AL, FanDuel rates the Seattle Mariners (+1200) and Houston Astros (+1300) as strong candidates to reach the World Series. Seattle might need AL MVP candidate Cal Raleigh to have another historic season to make that happen. BetMGM has both teams at +1300.

Looking for a team getting little respect? How about the Blue Jays, who took a lead into the ninth inning of Game 7 before ultimately losing. Toronto is just +2000 by both entities.

Some of that might be due to the possibility that star shortstop Bo Bichette could leave as a free agent. But Vladimir Guerrero Jr. isn't going anywhere and George Springer is one of the top clutch hitters in postseason history.

Also worth noting, Toronto was lightly respected entering the 2025 season. BetMGM listed the Blue Jays at +6600.

The Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals have the longest odds at +50000.

Katherine Pierce was a staple of the *Vampire Diaries* universe. But at one point in the series, the writers had to fight to tell more of her story.

"We had to negotiate for the right to let Nina [Dobrev] play Katherine again because the season 2 Katherine [story] had really taken everything out of her and the network was being very protective," executive producer Julie Plec says about the show's fifth season during episode 5 of *EW's Binge: The Vampire Diaries*. "[The network] and studio were being very protective and they were like, 'You can't do that anymore, you can't have Katherine.'"

On an earlier episode of the podcast, Dobrev spoke about how exhausted she was at the end of season 2, the first season in which she played both Elena and Katherine in the present day. So when it came time to make Katherine human and even introduce a third Petrova doppelgänger, the writers had to get creative. "We had to basically beg the network to let us even write story for Katherine," Plec says, noting that "the triplegänger made the whole thing worth it."

Fans will remember that season 5 featured Katherine taking over Elena's body, which meant that for a good chunk of the season, Dobrev only had one character to play. And then, eventually, Katherine met her demise, a decision that also came about following those negotiations. "I literally think we had to say we'll kill her in order to get permission to use her," Plec recalls.

Additionally, during the podcast, Plec discusses the choice to have Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) be the two characters who "die" together at the end of season 5, which led to a discussion about Bamon, the popular ship. "Bonnie and Damon had a thing in the books we had sort of always said, 'We don't buy a romantic connection between Bonnie and Damon because Damon's just done too many terrible things and Bonnie just has more integrity than that,'" Plec says. "But we wanted to service that relationship in the canon a little bit."
