The first death Renee Adair witnessed will always stay with her. It wasn't anything like she'd expected - there was no gasping, no fear, no traumatising struggle. Just a quiet moment in which one of her closest friends passed to the other side. Although her friend had died very young, only in his mid-twenties, there was something incredibly peaceful and beautiful about his last moments alive. He had been a victim of the 1980s AIDS pandemic, which took the lives of thousands of gay men.
