'Sean Combs: The Reckoning' arrives on Netflix tomorrow: What to know about the docuseries produced by 50 Cent

Netflix will soon release its new four-part docuseries,Sean Combs: The Reckoning, executive produced by rapper 50 Cent. The documentary focuses on the life and career of Sean "Diddy" Combs, and unpacks the sexual abuse allegations and the shocking lawsuit filed by R&B singer and Combs's ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura against Combs in November 2023.

50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, teamed up with director Alexandria Stapleton to bring the docuseries to life.

"Being a woman in the industry, and going through the #MeToo movement — watching giants in music and film go on trial, and to know what their outcomes were. … When Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I just thought this could go a million different directions," Stapletontold Netflix's Tudum. "I wondered how she had the confidence to go out there against a mogul like Sean Combs. As a filmmaker, I instantly knew it was a stress test of whether we've changed as a culture, as far as being able to process allegations like this in a fair way."

Combs wassentenced to four yearsin prison in October 2025, after he was convicted of transporting women to partake in sex marathons fueled by drugs. A jury found the Bad Boy Records founderguilty on two countsof transportation to engage in prostitution with Ventura and a victim who testified with the pseudonym "Jane" in July.

What isSean Combs: The Reckoningabout?

Netflix's official logline for the four-part docuseries reads: "The documentary series features intimate footage, shot with Combs's knowledge, in the six days leading up to his arrest and indictment. At the time, Combs was under federal investigation."

Sean Combs: The Reckoningwill also feature interviews with several subjects, including Aubrey O'Day, a member of the girl group Danity Kane, as well as jurors selected for Combs's trial earlier this year.

According to Stapleton, the purpose of the documentary is to warn of the consequences of idolizing celebrities.

"This isn't just about the story of Sean Combs or the story of Cassie, or the story of any of the victims, or the allegations against him, or the trial," Stapletontold Netflix's Tudum. "Ultimately, this story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal. I hope [this documentary] is a wake-up call for how we idolize people, and to understand that everybody is a human being."

Jackson and Comb have been engaged in a 20-year feud that seemingly began in 2006, when 50 Cent released his diss track "The Bomb," in which he accused Diddy of being involved in the 1997 murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G. 50 Cent has also accused the "I'll Be Missing You" rapper of involvement in the murder of another rapper, Tupac Shakur, in 1996. Diddy, however, has denied such claims. The drama between Jackson and Combs also heated up over the years, as they promoted rival vodka brands.

"Look, it seems like I'm doing some extremely outrageous things, but I haven't. It's really me just saying what I've been saying for 10 years," Jacksontold Peoplein October 2024 of his decision to speak out regarding the accusations against Combs. "Now it's becoming more full-facing in the news with the Puffy stuff, but away from that, I'm like, 'Yo, it's just my perspective because I stayed away from that stuff the entire time, because this is not my style.'"

How is 50 Cent involved inSean Combs: The Reckoning? What has he said about it?

50 Cent is an executive producer of the docuseries. For the "Candy Shop" rapper,Sean Combs: The Reckoningis a reflection of his pursuit of "real storytelling."

"I've been committed to real storytelling for years through G-Unit Film and Television," Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson alsotold Netflix's Tudum. "I'm grateful to everyone who came forward and trusted us with their stories, and proud to have Alexandria Stapleton as the director on the project to bring this important story to the screen."

Jackson said he chose to be part of the docuseries because he wanted to publicly condemn Combs's behavior.

"If I didn't say anything, you would interpret it as that hip-hop is fine with his behaviors," he said during the Monday's edition ofGood Morning America. "There's no one else being vocal. So you would look at it and just say, because that mind your business, or let me not say nothing about nothing, or those things, it would allow the entire culture to register as if they're for that behavior."

But the G-Unit cofounder is confident that Combs would be impressed by the docuseries, should he ever choose to watch it.

"I think he's gonna say, 'This is the best documentary I've seen in a long time,' Jackson also told the ABC news program. "And he may feel a different way about pieces and bits of it. But he knows the truth. I think he'll see the truth in it."

Combs isn't a fan of the forthcoming docuseries. In a statement, the Bad Boy Records founder accused Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos of a "personal breach of trust." He also referred to the docuseries teaser featured onGood Morning Americaas proof that Jackson had used stolen footage of him. .

"Netflix's so-called 'documentary' is a shameful hit piece," read Combs's statement, per Deadline. "Netflix is plainly desperate to sensationalize every minute of Mr. Combs's life, without regard for truth, in order to capitalize on a never-ending media frenzy. … It is equally staggering that Netflix handed creative control to Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson — a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta who has spent too much time slandering Mr. Combs."
