Julia Roberts Commands Huge Standing Ovation from Golden Globes Audience: 'I'm Going to Be Impossible for a Week'

Julia Robertsmay have lost her category at the2026 Golden Globes, but she still earned some love from the star-studded audience at the Beverly Hilton.

Roberts presented the award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Sun., Jan. 11. As she took the stage, much of the audience rose to give the Oscar-winning actress a standing ovation.

"Thank you," Roberts said, then teased stragglers to rise, "Yup. Everybody! Let's go! In the back! Come on!"

She jokingly called on attendee Emma Stone to join the ovation, saying, "She's like what the hell is going on right now?"

Of the sweet tribute, Roberts said, "I'm gonna be impossible for at least a week. I appreciate that."

"What a great night. What a beautiful night to be an artist," Roberts reflected. "This is 2026. We're going straight to the top on this."

Ultimately, Roberts gave the award to Paul Thomas Anderson'sOne Battle After Another.

Moments later, Roberts' frequent collaborator and longtime friend George Clooney presented the final award of the evening — Best Motion Picture - Drama — and earned a polite ribbing by Don Cheadle about hislackof a standing ovation.

Roberts, 58, was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role inAfter the Hunton Sunday, butultimately lost the categorytoHamnet's Jessie Buckley.

During Buckley's acceptance speech, she fangirled over Roberts, telling the iconic actress, "Oh my God, the incredible women I am honored to stand beside in this category. I mean, Julia Roberts - you are like a hero to us all."

Roberts broughther husbandDanny Moder with her for the night at the Globes. While Roberts walked the carpet solo in a plunging black dress with a red necklace, Moder was then pictured alongside his wife of over 20 years inside.

Roberts has won three Golden Globes throughout her career. In 1990 she nabbed a Best Actress honor forPretty Woman. She won the honor again forErin Brockovichin 2000. In 1989, she was given the Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture honor forSteel Magnolias.
