Javier Bardemis fearsome ex-con Max Cady in the first look of the Apple TV series "Cape Fear," released Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The 10-episode drama re-imagines the 1991 movie "Cape Fear," which starredRobert De Niroas the prison-tattooed Cady more than three decades ago.
The Apple TV series features married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson), responsible for putting notorious killer Cady (Bardem) in prison. A storm hits when Cady is released and wants vengeance De Niro-style.
The first two episodes will premiere on June 5, the streamer announced, with the remaining 8 episodes premiering weekly.
Martin Scorsese, who directed the 1991 movie, is an executive producer.Steven Spielberg, who was an executive producer of Scorsese's "Cape Fear," returns to EP the series.
Executive producer and creator Nick Antosca said during a panel discussion that the series has "re-imagined" the original story. John D. MacDonald's 1957 novel "The Executioners" was the source for a Gregory Peck 1962 movie version of "Cape Fear," which was remade in 1991 with De Niro, Jessica Lange and Nick Nolte.
De Niro received a 1992 best actor Oscar nomination for the Cady role, one of the iconic performances in the superstar's movie library.Juliette Lewisalso received a best supporting actress nomination as the Cady-besieged couple's daughter Danielle Bowden.
