The Big 12 had two teams in the top 10 of The Top 25 college football poll for the first time in two years Sunday, Notre Dame was back in the top 10 after a two-month absence and Oklahoma and Texas made the biggest upward moves.

The top seven teams were unchanged in the final poll before the College Football Playoff committee releases its first rankings Tuesday night to kick off the run-up to the CFP bracket release Dec. 7.

No. 1 Ohio State, which pulled way in the second half to beat Penn State, is at the top of the AP poll for a 10th straight week. Indiana, which scored 50-plus points against a Big Ten opponent for the third time while hammering Maryland, is No. 2 for a third straight week.

The Buckeyes and Hoosiers again were followed by Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon and Mississippi. Losses by Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Miami shuffled the Nos. 8, 9 and 10 spots, now held by BYU, Texas Tech and Notre Dame.

The distribution of first-place votes was the same as last week. Ohio State received 54, Indiana got 11 and Texas A&M one.

No. 8 BYU and No. 9 Texas Tech gave the Big 12 two teams in the top 10 for the first time since Oct. 29, 2023. The Cougars, who were idle, have their highest ranking of the season. The Red Raiders won at Kansas State and re-entered the top 10 for the first time in three weeks. The two teams face each other this weekend.

Notre Dame, winner of six straight, was pushed by a one-win Boston College on the road before it won by 15 points and moved up two spots to No. 10. The Fighting Irish were last in the top 10 in Week 3, at No. 8, before a home loss to Texas A&M dropped them to 0-2 and dropped them to No. 24.

No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 13 Texas received seven-spot promotions for their wins Saturday. The Sooners beat Tennessee on the road and the Longhorns knocked off Vanderbilt at home. Tennessee took the biggest fall, dropping nine spots to No. 23.

In and out

— No. 24 Washington, which was idle, is in the poll for the first time since it finished the 2023 season at No. 2 following its loss to Michigan in the national championship game. The Huskies' only losses are to No. 1 Ohio State at home and to a then-unranked Michigan on the road.

— Houston, whose No. 22 ranking last week was its first Top 25 appearance since 2022, dropped out after losing at home to West Virginia.

Poll points

— BYU has risen in the poll six straight weeks since making its debut on Sept. 21. The Cougars have gone from No. 25 to No. 8 over that span.

— Miami's losses to two then-unranked opponents in three weeks have caused a 16-spot plummet, from No. 2 to No. 18.

— Ohio State is in the Top 25 for a 90th straight poll, third-most on the active list. Notre Dame is in a 50th straight time, fifth on the active list.

— Texas made its 800th appearance in the poll, seventh all-time.

Conference call

SEC (9 teams) — Nos. 3, 4, 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 19, 23.

Big Ten (6) — Nos. 1, 2, 6, 20, 21, 24.

Big 12 (4) — Nos. 8, 9, 17, 25.

ACC (4) — Nos. 12, 14, 16, 18.

American (1) — No. 22.

Independent (1) — No. 10.

Ranked vs. ranked

— No. 8 BYU (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) at No. 9 Texas Tech (8-1, 5-1): The game of the year in the Big 12. The Red Raiders have lost 16 straight against top-10 teams.

— No. 3 Texas A&M (8-0, 5-0 SEC) at No. 19 Missouri (6-2, 2-2): The Aggies embarrassed Missouri in College Station last year, getting out to a 34-0 lead and winning 41-7.

Nebraska starting quarterback Dylan Raiola is reportedly done for the year, suffering a broken fibula that will end his season, per multiple media reports.

Raiola suffered the injury during the Cornhuskers' 21-17 loss to USC on Saturday, exiting the game during the third quarter after being sacked. Raiola lost a fumble in the process of the sack and had to be helped off the field.

Prior to the injury, the sophomore went 10-of-15 for 91 yards and a touchdown. Freshman quarterback TJ Lateef stepped in with Raiola out, going 5-of-7.

The Trojans surged back from an eight-point deficit, scoring two touchdowns (including a 2-point conversion) in the second half to best Nebraska.

Raiola, one of the top recruits in 2024, has been the Cornhuskers' starter for two seasons after swapping his commitment from Georgia to Nebraska. This season, his completion percentage ranks in the top six among NCAA QBs, with QB rating and total touchdowns in the top 20.

With the injury, Raiola is set to miss Nebraska final three games of the year, plus the postseason. The Huskers are 6-3 and bowl eligible.

Lateef will most likely step in as a starter in Raiola's absence, with the freshman having some tough games ahead. Nebraska doesn't have any more ranked matchups left this season, but will still be playing against some tough Big Ten opponents, facing UCLA, Penn State and Iowa to finish the season.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Joe Alt hurt his right ankle late in the second quarter Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and was carted off the field.

The Chargers said Alt was questionable to return.

Alt missed three games with a sprained right ankle and returned Oct. 23 in the Chargers' win over Minnesota. He didn't get up after a long incompletion by Justin Herbert with 4:49 left in the first half against Tennessee.

Jamaree Salyer replaced Alt, and the Chargers gave up their second sack on the next play after Alt was taken off the field. The Chargers already had right tackle Bobby Hart leave in the first quarter with a groin injury.

Dean Lewis has issued a public apology

Australian singer Dean Lewis has apologized, following allegations from several women that he caused them hurt or discomfort with the way he treated them.

"In the past few days, social media has made public a decade-plus of private conversations with a number of women, all of adult age," Lewis wrote on social media. "I don't fault these individuals for having hard feelings, and I don't want anyone defending me. I was breathtakingly dumb texting and flirting in the manner I have over many years. I should have been more sensitive that not everyone might look at our interactions the way I often did."

Lewis, who said that not all that's out there about him is accurate, emphasized that all the parties involved in the encounters he spoke of were consenting adults.

"The individuals leading the campaign against me have repeatedly acknowledged this, and I'm hurt by any suggestion that I've done things that have crossed into illegality," he wrote. "At the same time, I realise I've made an incredible mess, people are genuinely hurt, and I need to make changes."

Lewis, 38, explained that, "From the bottom of my heart, I want to sincerely apologise to those I've hurt," including not only the women who've come forward with accusations against him, but also those who hadn't, and for the fans and family members he'd left "gravely disappointed."

The changes he cited include "enrolling myself into intense therapy to make better choices and dramatically shift my approach to dating, relationships, and showing greater care to the women in my life." He also plans to have "a whole new set of rules so there's never confusion or questions about my intent when I'm engaging with fans or responding to messages in the future."

Lewis noted that fame had left him lonely, and he'd sought connection, but now he's voluntarily cutting himself off from others for a while.

"I know it's too much to ask for grace and forgiveness at this moment, but in time I hope to re-earn the trust of those I've hurt, and do better by those I've disappointed," Lewis wrote. "I'm going to look after myself for a little bit while I get my head and life in order."

Lewis has had songs featured on popular TV shows such as *Riverdale* (his 2016 debut single "Waves"), *Suits*, and *Grey's Anatomy*. He's released three albums and been nominated for multiple international awards.**

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell announced Sunday that she has dismissed senior guard Ruby Whitehorn from the eighth-ranked Lady Vols, saying it was her responsibility to protect the program's high standards.

"In light of recent events, Ruby has been unable to reflect those standards, and I have made the difficult decision to dismiss her from our team," Caldwell said in a statement. "I love Ruby and will always be rooting for her, but my priority is to uphold the respected reputation of the Lady Vols."

Whitehorn had been allowed back on the team following a suspension for an August arrest. She pleaded guilty Sept. 5 to two misdemeanors of aggravated trespassing and aggravated burglary in exchange for judicial diversion after the Aug. 8 altercation. Her record can be expunged after a year.

The 6-foot player from Detroit was arrested after what police said was an incident at a woman's residence where Whitehorn kicked in a front door and bedroom door. Whitehorn reportedly told officers she was getting her property back after the woman took her phone and passport and then locked the door.

Whitehorn then reportedly was stopped early on Oct. 30 by campus police who found her in possession of marijuana. She was charged with misdemeanor simple possession/casual exchange.

The Lady Vols open the season Tuesday night at No. 9 N.C. State.

Whitehorn started 28 of 34 games last season for the Lady Vols and ranked fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 11.6 points. She began her career at Clemson, where she started 62 of 66 games.

She helped Tennessee go 24-10 in coach Caldwell's debut season. The Lady Vols lost to Texas in the Sweet 16 of the women's NCAA Tournament.

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid was fined $50,000 by the NBA on Sunday for his actions during an Oct. 31 loss to the Boston Celtics. Embiid was fined for "making a lewd gesture on the playing court," per a league statement.

Embiid was not penalized for the gesture during the game, likely because the officials didn't see it. The closest official walked past Embiid and was looking at the scorer's table when Embiid made the gesture. Embiid made his free throw after the foul, completing the three-point play.

Embiid dropped 20 points in the contest, a 109-108 loss for the 76ers. It marked the third-straight outing in which Embiid has scored at least 20 points.

After an injury-riddled 2024-25 NBA season, Embiid has already looked more explosive in four games this year. The team is playing it cautious with Embiid's surgically-repaired knee, and will give the star center regular rest early on. Embiid missed the team's Oct. 27 win over the Orlando Magic due to rest. He'll miss the team's game against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday for the same reason.

Assuming Embiid doesn't need to miss additional time, the 76ers should have him back when they take on the Chicago Bulls on Nov. 4.

Fed fallout, missing jobs numbers, and a busy earnings calendar: What to watch this week

After one of the busiest weeks of the year, another jam-packed week awaits investors, with a rush of corporate earnings slated for the first week of November, as just over eight weeks remain in 2025.

Stocks finished last week on a high note, with earnings out of Amazon (AMZN) late Thursday lifting tech stocks into the weekend and capping off a more than 2.5% gain for the tech-heavy Nasdaq (^IXIC) last week. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) and Dow (^DJI) both rose a more modest 1%.

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates, as expected, and President Trump's meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in South Korea saw trade tensions further ease between the two nations.

In the week ahead, the AI trade will remain front and center for investors, with Palantir (PLTR), AMD (AMD), Supermicro (SMCI), and Constellation Energy (CEG) all set to report quarterly results. Dozens of other names in the S&P 500 are also expected to report.

On the economic data side, the ongoing government shutdown will likely delay the monthly jobs numbers for a second straight month, making Wednesday's monthly private payrolls figures from ADP the week's biggest labor market update.

Updates on activity in the manufacturing and services sectors from the Institute for Supply Management and S&P Global will be the week's other key highlights, along with a preliminary look at consumer sentiment in November from the University of Michigan due out Friday.

A quarter-point cut was widely expected at the October Fed meeting.

The "real fireworks," Bank of America analysts noted, came afterward, in Fed Chair Jay Powell's press conference, where he said that another cut in December is "not a foregone conclusion, far from it."

"The FOMC wasn't as dovish as markets had hoped last night when Jerome Powell poured cold water on those expecting another 25bps cut in December to be a done deal," Capital.com analyst Daniela Hathorn said. "The statement knocked some wind out of the risk-on mood in markets."

To make matters worse, the Fed officials continue to face a near-total lack of economic data on which to base their outlook.

BNP Paribas analysts "continue to expect ongoing rate cuts, including at the December meeting," while Bank of America analysts "remain comfortable with our view that the Fed will not cut rates again under Chair Powell." Though both banks agreed that the process is only getting more contentious.

Story Continues

"This clearly will likely be a rowdy and disorderly process, with Powell having less control over the FOMC and regional Reserve Bank voters increasingly vocal in their disagreement," BNP analysts wrote.

Last week's decision also saw dissents on both sides, with Fed governor Stephen Miran calling for a 50 basis point cut, while Kansas City Fed president Jeff Schmid called for no movement. On Friday, Schmid was joined by at least three of his colleagues in questioning the need for a cut, and markets appear to be taking this dissent seriously — as of Friday afternoon, traders were pricing in just a 63% probability of another quarter-point cut at the Fed's December meeting. Those odds had been closer to 95% a week ago.

"By implication, that's also pushback against the prospect of a Fed that is set to aggressively and profoundly cut the Fed Funds target rate into 2026, as well, at least while he's around," Macquarie analysts wrote.

How much impact all of this will have on the stock market is hard to predict. As BofA analysts noted, November is traditionally a high-performing month for stocks: "Buy Halloween or Christmas Eve as it tends to pay for a NYE celebration," the analysts wrote.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell speaks at a news conference after the Federal Open Market Committee meeting on Oct. 29 at the Federal Reserve Board Building in Washington, D.C. (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta) · 'We have a deal'

On Thursday, President Trump and the administration's trade negotiators emerged from long-awaited talks with Beijing and declared, "We have a deal," with terms covering everything from rare earth metals and soybeans to fentanyl and port fees.

"Zero to 10, with 10 being the best, I'd say the meeting was a 12," Trump said to a press gaggle on Air Force One shortly after the meeting.

Now, the question will be what sticks.

When Trump and Xi signed their original "Phase One" agreement in 2020, the two world leaders agreed that in return for Chinese purchases of $200 billion of American goods and services, the US would suspend some of its tariff rates.

Read more: 5 ways to tariff-proof your finances

Over the next year, China purchased just a bit over half of the value it had committed to purchasing, and the US kept many of its tariffs on Chinese goods in place. Two years later, the US had expanded a ban on investments in companies linked to the Chinese military, and the World Trade Organization authorized China to implement retaliatory tariffs on the US.

This time around, the deal between Washington and Beijing is once again wide-ranging and comes with several goals.

The US has promised to halve its fentanyl-related tariffs on China, lowering the overall tariff rate on China from 57% to 47%, while Beijing has committed to holding off on its rare earth export controls for at least a year, among other policies.

Trump also told reporters that China has agreed to buy 25 million tons of US soybeans annually over each of the next three years, a welcome development for a US agricultural industry that has been crippled by China's pause in soybean purchases.

Bank of America wrote in a recent note that the deal "reduces tail risks for both economies." But Macquarie analysts noted that several key topics, including TikTok and Taiwan, were left unaddressed.

"Several items were left out," Macquarie analysts wrote. "That means that the deal is not 'comprehensive,' but largely reestablishes the status quo from the early summer."

Market reactions to the deal framework, announced only shortly after the Federal Reserve's decision to cut rates, were largely mixed. One big question remains to be answered: Will Nvidia (NVDA) be allowed to sell its highest-quality Blackwell chips to Chinese customers? Trump said the issue wasn't discussed.

How this and other key questions get answered, and what parts of the framework announced Thursday really stick, will be key questions for investors going forward.
