Long-lost Neanderthal group that lived 50,000 years ago is discovered and it has links to 'The Hobbit'


A new DNA analysis of a Neanderthal nicknamed Thorin is making experts rethink what they know about early humans. In 2015, researchers discovered the remains of the short-statured Thorin in a cave in southern France. He was named after the character in J.R.R. Tolkien's famed book 'The Hobbit' who was the last of the dwarf kings. But a new investigation of Thorin's DNA suggests he belonged to a previously unknown lineage of Neanderthals that was isolated for 50,000 years, despite living in close proximity to other members of their species.
