A Democrat mayor has been elected in Nebraska's biggest city for the first time in more than a decade. The former Republican stronghold of Omaha has turned blue after John Ewing Jr. unseated Jean Stothert, who has held the post since 2013. Ewing's victory also marks the first time a black mayor has been elected in the Midwestern city, which is often pivotal in presidential elections. He stands in stark contrast to Nebraska's wider political lineup, comprising Republican Governor Jim Pillen, and Senators Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts.
