Britney Spears' recent turbulence on Instagram has come to an end in a surprising way, as the pop star appears to have deleted her account.

The "Lucky" singer's account, which as of Saturday bore the handle @britneyspears and the display name XILA MARIA RIVER RED, now directs to an error page that notes the profile is no longer available.

"The link may be broken, or the profile may have been removed," the blank page now reads, in place of an account that displayed thousands of posts from over 12 years of activity.

It is currently unclear whether Spears personally deleted her own account, or if the social media platform owned by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta enacted a suspension or deletion of her account. Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives of both parties for comment.

The deletion of Spears' account comes after publishing several concerning posts, spurred by the publication of a memoir by Kevin Federline, Spears' ex-husband and the father of her two sons.

You Thought You Knew, published in late October, recounted the highs and many lows of Federline's turbulent relationship with Spears, which lasted from their meeting and marriage in 2004 to their divorce in 2007. The memoir included a volume of salacious allegations, including Federline's contention that Spears did cocaine while breastfeeding son Jayden, that Spears cheated on him with a female dancer, and that she menaced their children in threatening ways.

Spears took exception to such claims, employing Instagram as her main channel of communication to the public.

"The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys... Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me," Spears wrote in a post cross-shared to X, where it is still live. Spears was routinely reposting messages to the text-based platform owned by Elon Musk, but her last post is dated Oct. 16.

"Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here," she continued. "I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.

Other photos, videos, and captions shared to Instagram concerned Spears' 42 million followers. One posted on Oct. 7 showed bruises on Spears' arms and bandages on her hands and wrists. The singer explained that the injuries were sustained from a fall "down the stairs at my friend's house."

On Oct. 19, Spears revealed that she believes she suffered brain damage while under a 13-year conservatorship, and later made a vague allusion to a "lookalike" when addressing a recent video that captured her driving erratically in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks.

Spears released her own memoir, The Woman in Me, in 2023. The book is currently being developed as a film from Wicked director Jon M. Chu.
