Jessica Simpson celebrated eight years of sobriety on Nov. 1 by sharing a reflective Instagram post

"Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency," she wrote

The singer previously shared that she decided to give up alcohol to "allow myself to take back my light"

Jessica Simpson is celebrating eight years of sobriety.

The multi-hyphenate, 45, marked the milestone on Saturday, Nov. 1, by sharing a reflective message on Instagram alongside a casual selfie of herself smiling at the camera.

"8 years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self-sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing," Jessica wrote. "Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of God's purpose for my life. Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency."

"Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith," she continued. "Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see, I'm so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender."

Along with allowing her to reconnect with her intuition, the "I Wanna Love You" singer revealed earlier this year that her sobriety journey has also had major impacts on her songwriting. She said that back in 2016 and 2017, when she was writing "with some of the biggest hitmakers" in Los Angeles, she never released a few of her songs because they "just didn't feel like me."

"Every time I would write, I was a little afraid of myself. It was almost too much, especially because I was drinking at the time," Jessica told The Cut for a February cover story alongside sister Ashlee Simpson. "But once I gave up the alcohol, the fears just diminished. They went away."

Last August, the mom of three clapped back at a follower who told her to "STOP DRINKING" underneath an unrelated Instagram post celebrating her son Ace's 11th birthday.

"I haven't wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017 and it has been the best decision I've made for myself and for my family," Jessica wrote at the time. "Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood. Sending love your way."

As for why the musician made the decision to get sober?

While celebrating six years of sobriety on Instagram in 2021, Jessica explained, "I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self-respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity. Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted."
