Judy Garland's Daughter Lorna Luft Gives Rare Insight into Her Relationship with Sister Liza Minnelli

The late actress welcomed Minnelli with directorVincente Minnellion March 12, 1946. She then welcomed Luft on Nov. 21, 1952, and sonJoey, born March 29, 1955, with producerSid Luft.

Luft, 73, offered a rare insight into her relationship with her sister, now 79, at The Pierre hotel's Red Diamond 95th Anniversary Gala in New York City on Thursday, Nov. 20.

"She's great. She's in Los Angeles," said Luft, while speaking toE! News. "We talk on the phone a lot, because I live back in New York. So, everything's really, really — she's great."

While both Luft and Minnelli tend to keep a low profile these days, Luft has been a proud supporter ofWicked.

Garland, who died in 1969 at the age of 47, starred as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 adaptation of L. Frank Baum'sThe Wizard of Oz.

When part one of the two-part adaptation premiered in November 2024, Luft went onInstagramto share thatthe film was "breathtaking to look at"and "everything I wanted it to be."

"I told the genius DirectorJon Chuthat he had picked up the torch, the broom, and the wand, and carried it forward; and thanked him, for adding to the family," she wrote.

While speaking with PEOPLE this past April, Luft said she believesher late mom "would've loved"Wicked.

She added when asked what songs she thinks her mother would have loved the most: "I have no idea. But she would've loved it."

Fans who are interested inlearning more about Garland's family — specifically Minnelli— can look out for her forthcoming memoir,Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, available for preorder now.

The book, which, per an official synopsis, tells Minnelli's "fascinating, untold story," arrives on bookshelves March 10, 2026.
