Julia Fox has received criticism for attending a Halloween party dressed as former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis on the day of her husband, President John F. Kennedy's assassination. The "Uncut Gems" and "Him" actress appeared at the New York City gathering on Oct. 30, donned in a replica of the First Lady's infamous pink suit splattered with fake blood stains. In an Instagram post made the following morning, she posited, "I'm dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement."

Onassis was wearing the pink outfit on Nov. 22, 1963, riding beside her husband in a Dallas parade when he was shot. Images of Onassis crawling over the car with her husband's blood soaking into her elegant attire have become harrowing relics of history. More notoriously, Onassis refused to change out of her clothes when standing next to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson during his swearing-in ceremony on Air Force One. She reportedly stated, "No, let them see what they've done to Jack."

In her post, Fox says, "The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation." She praises the First Lady's decision to stay in the same clothes as "an act of extraordinary bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It's about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance."

Not everyone saw Fox's outfit as a tasteful tribute, though. She received backlash for the controversial costume from many critics online, including Kennedy and Onassis' grandson, Jack Schlossberg. Schlossberg wrote on Twitter, "Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous. I'm sure her late grandmother would agree."

The real pink suit resides in the National Archives outside of Washington, D.C. It is being kept from public display until the year 2103, a century after it, along with Onassis' other personal effects from the day of her husband's death, were donated to the Archives. Onassis passed away in 1994.
