  • Though Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie get to keep their princess titles after their father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's latest scandal, it has still had a "devastating effect" on them.

  • King Charles is determined to look after his nieces—and has been sending signs of support to them by including them in the royal fold.

  • Charles "is determined to embrace his nieces," royal biographer Ingrid Seward said.

AfterKing Charlesstripped his younger brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—previously known asPrince Andrew—of his princely title late last month, a royal biographer said that the King feels responsible for Andrew's daughters,Princess BeatriceandPrincess Eugenie, who are caught in the crossfire of their father's mistakes.

Though Beatrice and Eugenie don't hold working royal roles and never have, there are indications that Charles is "looking after" his nieces, specifically Eugenie's appearance last week in support of his charitable organization The King's Foundation and Beatrice's new royal patronage with Outward Bound. These are clear signals of support from the King, Ingrid Seward said, showing that Charles "is determined to embrace his nieces."

The King seemingly wants to "bring them into the royal fold in a way where they don't feel they're just being gratuitously pulled in, but they're actually doing something for it," Seward toldThe Sun.

The possibility that Beatrice and Eugenie could take on more duties with the royal family even though they will remain non-working royals shows "the very kind side of the King," said Seward, who is also editor-in-chief ofMajestymagazine.

"I think that Charles feels quite responsible for these two girls, because it's been a hideous time for them," Seward continued. "Really hideous." She said that, as scandal has engulfed not just their father but also their mother,Sarah Ferguson, it has "been very, very difficult" for Beatrice and Eugenie.

"They're actually part of the royal family, and they can do their bit, which I think is important to them," Seward added, noting that the King is sending a "very strong signal" that "the sins of the father are not reflected on the children."

Fellow royal biographer Robert Hardman toldThe Daily Mailthat "All along, the King and other members of the family have been concerned that the sins of the family do not befall them. They are blameless, they have led a pretty upright life and are level-headed and very nice young women."

Though Andrew is no longer a prince, Beatrice and Eugenie have retained their princess titles as well as their Her Royal Highness stylings. Though this is a positive for the princesses, Ailsa Anderson,Queen Elizabeth's former press secretary, toldPeoplethat the brouhaha surrounding Andrew will have a "devastating effect" on Beatrice and Eugenie.

"Even though they keep their titles, the ripple effect will have consequences for the rest of their lives," she said.
