A beloved California black bear was tragically put down after taking a swipe at a camper recording him approach from atop a tree stump. On the night of August 22, 2024, a well-known black bear named Victor, identified by the distinctive 'V' on his chest, wandered into a Mammoth Lakes campground. Attracted by the scent of grilled steak, he approached a campsite where campers were enjoying dinner. Most campers retreated to safety, but one individual remained to film the encounter, positioning themselves between Victor and a bear-proof storage container.
