The border patrol agent who was shot dead near the United States border with Canada had recently transferred up north from Texas. Agent David Maland, 44, was shot in the neck at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday in Newport, Vermont, while performing a traffic stop, authorities said. Sources told NewsNation's Ali Bradley that Maland became a Customs and Border Patrol agent in 2015. Bradley said Maland transferred from Texas to Vermont, where he worked in the Swanton Sector along the northern border.
