'Tis the season to get spooky! Halloween has finally arrived, and with it, a fantastic display of celebrity costumes. This year, the stars went all-out, with many sharing their costumes on social media before and on Oct. 31. While some drew inspiration from recent pop culture moments, many costumes evoked nostalgia by paying homage to movies of the past, from The Devil Wears Prada to Dick Tracy. Demi Lovato even poked fun at herself this holiday by dressing up as "Poot," an often-memed photo of herself.

Of course, it wouldn't be Halloween without a little costume controversy. This year, Him actress Julia Fox caused a stir by going as a blood-splattered Jackie Kennedy on the day of John F. Kennedy's assassination.

Here are some of the wildest celebrity costumes of the year.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum went as the viral toy sensation Labubu for Halloween, while her husband Brady Smith went as the knock-off version "Lafufu."

Today's Saturday coanchor appeared on the show as Lark Voorhies's Saved by the Bell character Lisa Turtle. She even got a call (on a giant cellphone!) from Mario Lopez, in costume as his character from the show, A.C. Slater.

Kyle MacLachlan and Rachel Sennott

The I Used to Be Funny actress appeared on the Twin Peaks alum's podcast What Are We Even Doing, and both used the opportunity to dress up like characters from The Princess Diaries. Sennott dressed like Anne Hathaway's Mia Thermopolis, while MacLachlan was Julie Andrews's Queen of Genovia.

Savannah Guthrie and Jenna Bush Hager

The Today show besties went as two iconic fashion editors this Halloween: Guthrie appeared on Today as Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada, while Hager dressed up as the woman who inspired Streep's character, Vogue's recently stepped-down longtime editor in chief, Anna Wintour.

Don't recognize Kardashian and her daughter's Halloween costumes? You're probably not online enough. The two went as viral TikTokers Jay Guapo and Pink Cardigan, who were shocked to learn that the reality stars dressed up like them for Halloween. Jenner also appeared in the video as viral TikToker Chrissy G.

Kelly Clarkson

The singer and talk show host turned her daytime TV set into a film noir. With her blonde wig, she evoked Breathless Mahoney, a lounge singer character portrayed by Madonna in the 1990 detective comedy Dick Tracy, even performing Madonna's song from the film, "Sooner or Later."

Julia Fox

One of the most controversial costumes of the year was worn by Julia Fox, who dressed up as Jackie Kennedy in the immediate aftermath of John F. Kennedy's assassination, with blood staining her pink suit.

Fox shared her reasoning behind the outfit on Instagram, writing that it was not a costume but a "statement."

"When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, 'I want them to see what they've done.' The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation," Fox wrote.

"Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery," she continued. "It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It's about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O."

Many people in the comments section of her Instagram post applauded the look, with influencer Emma Norton writing, "An absolutely SHOW STOPPING LOOK. From the messaging to the look itself… absolute perfection." Others declared the look "awesome," "iconic," and an example of Fox's "art."

Others, however, did not appreciate the costume choice and questioned how it would be perceived. "That's a great message but unless you tell everyone that lays eyes on you, it's just gonna look horrifically offensive," a commenter wrote.

Another called the outfit "distasteful," while a different commenter wrote, "Imagine what her family thinks when they see this and have to revisit this horrific day."

A third accused Fox of wearing the look for "ghoulish attention," writing that "to dress like this in a climate with rising political violence glorifies it, not female perseverance. And you know it."

Another commenter called Fox's perspective "completely skewed," writing, "there are many ways to get your points across without being so disrespectful and cruel."

Elsa Hosk

On Oct. 22, model Hosk shared a TikTok of herself dressed up as Princess Diana — specifically, in what the press dubbed her "revenge dress." Diana wore the outfit to a 1994 gala on the same night that her then husband, King Charles, admitted to cheating on her with his family friend and now-wife, Camilla Parker Bowles.

That wasn't the only Halloween costume Hosk wore this season. She also dressed up as Cameron Diaz's character from The Mask, wearing a tight red dress and matching lipstick. She wrote on Instagram that the 1994 Jim Carrey comedy was one of her favorite movies growing up.

Demi Lovato

The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer, who just released her new album, It's Not That Deep, posted a photo of herself as the iconic Poot Lovato meme from 2015. "Been so locked in this era thought i'd let pootvato out," she wrote on Instagram.

Chloe Bailey

The Grown-ish star appeared on TikTok in a gold bodysuit as Beyoncé's Foxy Cleopatra from Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Ed Sheeran
