"The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical," he said. "I've had very little coming in and everything going out."

Since 2017, theAmerican BeautyandHouse of Cardsstar has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen men, and he's denied the allegations. He was found not guilty in a 2023 case in London in which four men said he sexually assaulted them between 2001 and 2013. Also, Spacey was found not liable in a 2022 civil lawsuit brought by actor Anthony Rapp, who claimed that, in 1986, when he was 14, Spacey, then 26, had molested him.

Amid the flood of legal problems, Spacey has worked in several smaller productions from first-time filmmakers. He's also performed a variety show in Cyprus.

"We are in touch with some extremely powerful people who want to put me back to work," Spacey said. "And that will happen in its right time. But I will also say what I think the industry seems to be waiting for is to be given permission — by someone who is in some position of enormous respect and authority."

He's optimistic that he can make a comeback.

"So, my feeling is if Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino call Evan [his manager, Evan Lowenstein] tomorrow, it will be over. I will be incredibly honored and delighted when that level of talent picks up the phone."
