NEW YORK− Will there be reunion between Drs. Carter and Ross? Fans of medical dramas"ER"and"The Pitt"can only dream.
Ever sinceNoah Wyle, longtime star of NBC's medical drama "ER" (1994-2009) returned to the emergency department forHBO Max's Emmy-winning medical drama "The Pitt,"fans have been wondering if there would be more references to the iconic 90s and 200s show other than seeing Wyle suit up in scrubs again. Would other cast members cameo on "Pitt," for instance?
It turns out even big time executives would love that kind of "ER" reunion to happen, even if there's nothing official in the works. At an NYC event previewing upcoming shows for HBO and HBO Max on Nov. 20, the head of the premium cable channel and streaming service Casey Bloys joked about bringingGeorge Clooney, an original cast member on "ER," onto the "Pitt" set.
"Sure, he's welcome!" Bloys told the audience of reporters when asked if the A-list movie star would be on the show. He added, to the disappointment of fans everywhere, "I don't know if that was a real conversation."
Clooneyrecently told Entertainment Tonightthat he'd cameo on "Pitt" "in a heartbeat," before clarifying he hadn't actually talked to anybody official about it.

"It is [Wyle's] show. You know? I don't want to interrupt. But I am deeply proud of him, if I'm allowed to be proud of him," Clooney said. "What a beautiful show it is, and what a great success it has been. And what a fun thing, to have him, you know, kind of continuing on in a tradition."
Clooney played Dr. Doug Ross on "ER" from 1994 until 1999, alongside Wyle's Dr. John Carter. The pair made millions of fans of the NBC drama swoon as the dashing doctors. They have even cameoed together before, appearing together on a 1995 episode of "Friends" as doctors for Jennifer Aniston's character Rachel.
Season 2 of "The Pitt" is set to premiere on HBO Max on Jan. 8, 2026.
