Former Disney starMatt Prokophas been arrested for alleged possession of child pornography, among other charges.
Prokop was arrested on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, on charges including evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transportation, violation of bond or protective order, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony possession of child pornography, the Victoria County Sheriff's Office confirmed to USA TODAY on Monday, Jan. 12.TMZwas the first to report the arrest.
The former actor's bond violation stems from a 2024 case, when media outletsreportedthe Victoria, Texas, native was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend.
Prokop, 35, is being held in the Victoria County Sheriff's Office jail. A court date has yet to be set.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Victoria County District Attorney's Office for comment.
The former child star played Jimmie "The Rocket Man" Zara in the Disney theatrical film "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and Josh Rosen in the Disney Channel original film "Geek Charming" opposite one-time girlfriendSarah Hyland. The pair reportedly dated for over four years until 2014, when the "Modern Family" star filed a restraining order against him, alleging physical and verbal abuse throughout their relationship.
According toPeopleandThe Independent, Hyland alleged at the time that she had to ask her onscreen mother,Julie Bowen, to be present when she attempted to "peacefully end" their relationship. According to court documents obtained by the outlets, Prokop reacted by throwing a lighter at her and threatening to kill her dog and burn her house down.
Prokop, who also starred opposite Hyland in an episode of "Modern Family" as well as episodes of "Hannah Montana" and "Good Luck Charlie," has had no acting credits since the permanent restraining order was granted.
